Major eyeroll. Taking a few plates off and on a barbell is not that hard. FFS, you're there to work anyway |
So I actually agree that working in is annoying AF and I hate it too, but it's the "polite" way to notify someone they're taking too long or hogging a piece of equipment. People are oblivious. I'm sure we've all been that person at some point in our lives, and someone just needed to point it out. I'd have been beyond annoyed too PP. Working out is hard enough and I don't need any additional mental "roadblocks". I'd consider going to management too to potentially make an announcement that the ONE power rack should be reserved for specific exercises so that it's fair for everyone else. Or perhaps management could consider investing in a second one. |
You also have to adjust the rack height and safety arms between every set....are you just stupid or can you not read? Clearly you have probably never lifted heavy in your life. |
Home workout person here- genuinely curious- how do you budget your time / schedule for the gym when you have to factor in things like waiting for equipment? Do you say, I’ll be there for an hour and whatever I get done I get done? |
Going in with a plan helps - I usually stick to the same 5 exercises. Thankfully my gym isn't too crowded at the time I go so I usually don't have to wait too often. |
It's truly not an issue if you grow a set and tell the gym hogs you're working in and sharing the equipment. I budget an hour and am done in 45mins. |
Most days it doesn't matter if you have to wait for equipment, you just do alternative exercises. The only time it is problematic is when you need to do squats. There is just no other equipment you can get a proper barbell squat with. You need the racks for safety and setup. Bench press is the other time it is sorta problematic when you have to wait, but you can do dumbbell presses as a very good alternative. There are just no real good alternatives to a barbell squat. Bulgarian split squats etc. are just OK as secondary lifts, they cannot substitute for squats. You also have to wait when it is leg or chest day, because you typically want to do your heavy lifts first such a squats or bench presses before doing any other types of secondary exercises. If it is really bad that day for equipment hogs, usually I will just have to switch to back day or something when I wanted to do legs. Yesterday though I was adamant about doing legs. Was looking forward to it since 530 AM and missed the opportunity by 20 seconds due to the rack hog who was annoying doing crap like deadlifts, arm curls and shoulder presses in the only rack in the gym. |
Again, try 'working in' when the difference between you and the person you are trying to 'work in' with may be 200 lbs of weight and 8 inches in difference in height. We aren't talking about fake garbage smith machine workouts. You'd have to unpack 2-4 45 lbs plates, take off and adjust the j arms, and then adjust the safety arms/bar catches between every.single.set. It's just not feasible,.and when you are focused on lifting heavier to break through a plateau, you may need more recovery time than the person you're trying to work in with is used to. How about just not doing arm curls, shoulder presses, and deadlifts in or around the power rack for starters? Learn basic gym etiquette and be aware of the space around you. Oh, there's only one rack that can be used to do squats? Maybe I shouldn't dead lift in front of it and do arm curls. Common damn sense. |
Calm down, take a deep breath....jeeez |
If lifting heavy is that important to you it may be time to look for a different gym. I could not get into commercial gyms when I was powerlifting because of this issue. They are set up for cardio or accessory work. One of the best gyms I worked out at was UA Gym, they had at least 4 power racks and 2 platforms. Even so, it was only 20% or less than the total gym space. Now its a home gym luckily. If that is not doable for your home, I think some people have had success with using a storage area for their gym, especially ones with a rolling door that faces outward so you get some air movement. You may be able to find 2-3 people that lift heavy to share it with. |
Grow up OP. Rather than run to DCUM (I bet you spent the whole workout constructing the post in your head), try using your big girl words. |
I go in with a plan and most of my workout only require a barbell/rack for the first big lift. So that is typically the only bottleneck. I also never go at peak times because I don't want to have to wait for thing. The workout I can get done in an hour at 5am would easily take me double that if I went during bro lifting hour at 5pm. |
Ok, yes, she shouldn't have been doing those exercises in or around the power rack. Congrats. You're right. Now, do you want to focus on the glow of Being the Rightest Right Person, or do you want to figure out what to do next time so you can get your damn squats in? |
Cut back on the 'roids. You are acting crazy. |
Sounds like this gym is not a good option for you. I can always tell workout posers by the fact that their ENTIRE workout is ruined if they can't use a piece of equipment. There are so MANY ways to get your training done. No matter what it is. Use another. If it can't be replicated (no squat rack or bar for deadlift) and this happens repeatedly, then this is a failing of your gym. Pick another that doesn't have a SINGLE squat rack. WTF |
