They probably realized how bogus this test is and didn't want to be involved. |
Apparently it’s not. I get that you have an axe to grind about the test, and you are doing a great job of that in post after post. But parents have the right to get their kids’ results, and that falls on MCPS. |
+1. So my children are expected to take another one in Spring but they cannot share the scores from last year.. how is this fair? We don’t get to see how they did on a test yet precious instruction time is spent on this freaking test.. |
| My elementary DD got the latest MAP scores but I don't have MCAP for my HS sophomore DS. |
| MCAP test are useful to see where your child stands. Please understand that letter grades are so subjective. Teachers have the luxury of giving a child any letter grade, at their discretion. MCAP, teachers are not able to see the test, the questions, answers, etc. Teachers therefore, can not just “teach for the test.” The test is compromised of skills and standards from that year. How well can your child apply what she or he has learned and apply it to an unknown text or equation? It is just one data point to see how well your child is truly doing. It really does not take up much instruction time at all to give the test. In the real world, we are judged and based on our performance. The same is true for students. A student is not consistently doing well on multiple various assessments compared to their peers across multiple years? Time to asses for a 504 or IEP. A student doing very well across multiple assessments through various years? Time to evaluate for TAG. Take it as another data point, something positive, instead of negative. |
I was able to get a copy of my child’s report this way, but I did have to follow up several times. |
What does a "good score" on the MCAP reveal about your student? |
What useful info did your child's MCAP report tell you? |
That the state needs to invest in a credible standardized test? |
I dont get the MCAP results for my kids, I remember getting it 3-4 years back, but nothing since then. Do we have ask for the test result everytime? |
This week I received my 10th grader’s score from 9th grade life science. |
It tells you the level (1-4) for each skill tested (e.g., reading, writing, etc.) it also tells you how kids in the state, MCPS, and the specific school performed. |
| Why do you care so much, OP? Grades and MAP scores are way more useful. MCAP is really for the school system's internal data. |
Me, too! Not useful information. I have no idea how they are going to convert this to 20% of grade in future years. They need to adjust the Maryland Blueprint |
or simply invest in a reliable and meaningful test |
