Losing 5lb by mid-March?

I’m in. I haven’t actually weighed myself even though i said it was actually my goal. I’m working to get down to my size 6 jeans. I’m comfortably in size 8 right now. SQUEEZING into size 6. I’ll get on the scale in a few days. I haven’t pooped for 3 days so I’m thinking I should wait

NP here. I’m trying to lose 10lbs by May. started in Dec., lost 4 so far. I’ll join. One thing I’ve learned is better to count calories than daily weighing. I use Lose It and set my calories to lose 1/2lb per week but often hit lower. If you set your tracking to lose 1lb per week and log EVERYTHING accurately you should be on track to lose 5lb by March.

I need to lose 10lbs by the end of the year (a big bday) but losing the first 5 lbs in 5 weeks now sounds like a great idea.

Losing weight quickly has everything to do with how overweight you are and how healthy your habits are.

- exercise/activity
- diet
- alcohol

I'm trying to lose 20, and am down about 7 so far! But I was already pretty "good" in 2/3 of those categories - I am really active and I barely ever drink. My diet had gotten away from me, and while I didn't eat fast food, I had basically devolved into eating most anything I wanted and too much of it. So hard-core adherence to a more healthy diet has paid off thus far. I think the next 13 will be much harder, though.

800 cals a day. Its very tough but you can do it. I need to lose that amount too by early March.

Unless you are already very tiny and extremely inactive you do not have to eat that little. I am currently trying to lose 5lbs of fat by the end of February too and what I designed as a fairly aggressive cut still has me eating almost 1900 calories on average (more on days I lift, less on rest days).
If you decide to go ahead with the 800 cal crash diet make sure that the absolute majority of your calories are from protein to prevent muscle loss. A refeed (not a crazy binge, just something around maintenance) every 10-14 days would also be advisable. And make sure to take any necessary supplements like a multivitamin and fish oil.

I am in too. I use a great spreadsheet I found on Reddit. I have to eat 1500 calories a day and I'm closer to 1700. My TDEE is 1950. I have 3 pounds left but started with needing to lose 6. I started on January 4th but it's been a tough few weeks.

Here's a link to download the sheet.

Should we start a “5 by March 15” thread?

NP - yes me too! That's the exact weight I need to lose as well - at least initially.
I'll see how I look and feel from there.

Depends if you actually need to lose it or not. Some of these threads are like pro-ana threads, encouraging people to be extremely unhealthy and promoting ridiculous and in some cases deadly ideals of thin.

Those of us in this thread are not like that.

I am 5 feet 4.5 and I weigh 150. I want to get to 145 and a healthy BMI (still will be top of BMI).

I'm down from about 175 (almost obese BMI) over the last 6 months.

Nice work, you can do it!

I'm in too. 52, 5'5", at 145, would like to lose 5 by mid-March, before I go to a big conference. Been plateaued at this weight for a few weeks (started at 163, been slooooooowly losing since Nov. 2021). Eating carefully, doing IF, low-ish carb, cardio and weight lifting, etc. etc. This last 5 pounds may kill me!

Im 5 foot 4.5 poster - seem to be stuck at 150.

It's a tease, I just want to see that "4" number i.e. 149!!

Maybe I'll try to go low(er) calories today and see if that does the trick.

I wrote this in another thread (I think) but if you are stuck on a plateau....

I read that plateaus are often caused by your body sort of shutting down - calorie restricting means you have less energy and you exercise/move less and you get stuck at your current weight. And, you can't really call it a plateau unless it's stuck for 10-14 days.

I was stuck around 155 (I'm 5'7, so not trying to be anorexic here, my goal weight is 140). I actually added breakfast back - usually I skip it if I can - but continued to eat overall within my weight watchers daily point level. I made sure to work out every day and busted through the plateau - a week ago I was 154.5 and today I am 151.5. I weigh myself every day which allows me to see the trend, and not get freaked out if one day I put on a pound or whatever. Now I'm cutting out breakfast again and slightly decreasing my food intake, while keeping the exercise stable. Also hoping to see that "4" number on the scale soon!

So....I don't know, it's anecdotal. In the past I've tried to break through plateaus by eating less and less, it doesn't work, and I get super frustrated and fall off the wagon. This way seems better so far! Fingers crossed.
