Legality of southern flag on residential properties and pole size limits

Go ahead and fly it. That way all of your neighbors will know to avoid the ignorant racists in your household.

Fly your “southern” flag so you’ll feel better about the size of your “pole.” Your neighbors will appreciate the overt signaling, I bet.

Bottom line, I'm disappointed. I wish they all would fly their freak flags so we could easily spot them and avoid.

Go ahead and let your thoughts be known.

I have a neighbor who hung a Gadsden flag in their front room so that it is very visible through their front windows when the lights are in. They are known as the neighborhood jackasses and the rest of us avoid them as much as possible.

Yes. Popular with Hispanic drivers apparently. But I live in south county where it isn't as white as Reston.

This!! Well maybe if you are trying to court rednecks, but not for normal people. You can put up whatever flag you want on your property.

As a southerner from Mississippi- Let me be clear. That is NOT a southern flag. I see more in Pennsylvania than I ever do in Mississippi. It wasn’t the battle flag during the war. It’s a hate flag.

We were able to force our NoVA neighbor to remove his by going through the HOA.

Yes. That doesn’t change the adopted meaning.

Would it be legally and socially acceptable to do so, or would it vary by city or county (ie Great Falls vs Loudoun). TYIA and please share helpful, informative insight. No political discussion or prejudice please!

If you're asking re the confederate flag in Virginia, google Virginia flaggers.

Tacky, offensive and undesirable does not equal illegal. If you and your neighbor want to wave a flag and it fits in whatever the ordinance is in your state/county, then you have the right to do so. However, you also live in a community made up of people that will judge you based on that choice.

You, I like.

Yes, there can be legal restrictions that vary county to county and state to state.

There can be restrictions by your HOA as well. In VA, HOAs can't restricts homeowners from displaying American flags for example but other flags they can limit. Just depends.

And for all those crying about socially unacceptable - oh give it a rest. You didn't care until someone on social media told you too. It took until 2015 for the city of Alexandria to stop putting up Confederate flags each year. The flags were displayed around the City and they were put up by City workers. Oh year, and during that time, Alexandria had a long serving mayor - who was Black. And the people who put up the flags were often Black City workers.
