I have a neighbor who hung a Gadsden flag in their front room so that it is very visible through their front windows when the lights are in. They are known as the neighborhood jackasses and the rest of us avoid them as much as possible.

Don't they use in VA license tag?

MAGAs get the Gadsden plates.

There can be restrictions by your HOA as well. In VA, HOAs can't restricts homeowners from displaying American flags for example but other flags they can limit. Just depends.

And for all those crying about socially unacceptable - oh give it a rest. You didn't care until someone on social media told you too. It took until 2015 for the city of Alexandria to stop putting up Confederate flags each year. The flags were displayed around the City and they were put up by City workers. Oh year, and during that time, Alexandria had a long serving mayor - who was Black. And the people who put up the flags were often Black City workers.

No, we’ve known for a long time (pre social media) that celebrating racist traitors was bad - Confederate flag, roads named after Robert E Lee, etc.

You just become recently aware yourself.

Governments can't restrict your free speech. You can basically fly whatever flag you like on your private property. If you belong to an HOA, that's a private government. Completely different.

Neither flag is legal to fly.

Where exactly is not legal to fly?

I noticed a huge confederate flag flying at a house on hill that overlooks the Monocacy river right near the Monocacy aqueduct, which I think is technically in MoCo. I've driven this way many times and only recently noticed it. Really sad.

I'd call it offensive, but not as offensive as a confederate flag. Che wasn't responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Americans and he didn't fight to keep millions in chattel slavery. It's possible for two things to be bad, but one to be far worse than the other

Yes. Popular with Hispanic drivers apparently. But I live in south county where it isn't as white as Reston.

If that is true, that’s really scary. Like REALLY scary.

Do you have any actual data to support this, or just your own anecdotal observations? Because if that is true, it’s extremely troubling to me.

Definitely won't be a drab gray and brown flag with a hand sewn pair of Birkenstocks in the corner.

Maybe OP is just a huge Dukes of Hazzard fan?

But joking aside, WTAF is wrong with you OP? How did you get broken inside to want to fly a symbol of hate, racism, and violence and KNOW it’s wrong by your “Southern flag” nonsense?

So annoyed. That was a Revolutionary flag, part of our history co-opted by racists. Same with the OK hand signal. https://www.adl.org/resources/hate-symbol/okay-hand-gesture

You could put up a flag that says LOSER and I don't think it would be illegal. It would carry the same meaning.

Yeah, that one really bothers me! That was totally a normal and acceptable hand gesture that has absolutely nothing to do with racism until very recently.

I'm on the gulf coast of florida (so not as progressive as miami, but not as redneck as the northern part of the state) and there are no confederate flags down here anymore. Ten years ago there were. That stuff is not okay anymore. Lots of desantis and thin blue line flags, but confederate flag is just straight trash that no one wants to be associated with anymore.
