What are my at-home strength training options?

Peloton strength classes

Another vote for Peloton. There are SO many options for instructors and types of strength classes. I’m a huge fan.

How much weight can you lift on a Peloton?

I suggest getting a trainer for a few months to learn real lifting exercises (squats, deadlifts, etc) then you’ll be able to do it yourself in a gym whenever is convenient. You can also do most of that at home with kettlebells and a bench.

I’m the one who asked about if DH could do it. So I appreciate the feedback. DH isn’t sold on the idea of Beachbody, but I think he’s be up for the Peloton app.

I don’t think you actually lift ON the Peloton bike? They have separate workouts that you can stream. They do ‘real lifting exercises’.

Yes, although dumbbell based. If you prefer barbells, racks and cable machines you may need help learning proper usage.

For those who use peloton, what weights do you have? All hand weights? I have been loving the peloton workouts but I have mostly small weights and need to upgrade to get more out of the workouts.

Thanks for asking pp.
I am Curious about this too!

Bench sets what do you need on your floor?

I second this. It’s free and she’s amazing.

I third Caroline Girvan! Start with her 5-day beginner Epic program. Then you can work up to her 10-week Epic or pick and choose a workout. Don't be intimidated by her muscles. She is really the best and is FREE.

I fourth Caroline!! Have been doing her workouts for a while and really love them!

You have to buy the free weights. I have a little set up. I started with light weights, and now up to 15-20lb dumbbells. I don’t want to injure myself so I take it slow, but I’ve seen a definite transformation in my body. This is ideal for someone with not a lot of time who doesn’t want the hassle of going to the gym. Many people ENJOY the gym and like using gym equipment. So it depends on OP’s preferences!

And the peloton app is only $13/month and tons of classes in demand, as well as live classes and strength training programs.

To the PP who thought peloton involves lifting on the bike, this doesn’t involve the bike. They have a whole suite of classes that don’t involve their equipment (strength training, yoga, cardio, meditation, stretching, barre, pilates).

I greatly dislike Beachbody in general, but really enjoyed and got a lot out of the Liift 4 program.

Can I ask why you dislike it?

Pp here. I like that Liift4 is about getting stronger in a smart, solid way. But too much of Beachbody is focused on weight loss and changing your body for your “beach body”. And while it’s easy to avoid buying in to their upsells, I find them annoying… shakes, meal plans, etc. Maybe I’m just irritatable!
