Fight ends Gaithersburg High School football game

These kids were ruined because they were always impacted by achievement gap. This is not new. Look at what demographic they belong to.

These are exactly how these kids were raised in their families.

It's a result of housing segregation... The county politics and NIMBYism is concentrating poverty and related issues based on family income.

Let's stay on topic. You know it's all about loss of socialization skills from being locked down for a year.

Schools have been back in person for over a year.

And that doesn't mean they suddenly recover from a year of lockdown. These kids are ruined.

Uh, those kids were ruined long before covid lockdown, long before they even started school.

Maybe, but the loss of progress academically has significantly exacerbated the situation. But you can continue to put your head in the sand.

Kids are resilient and most have "recovered", whatever that means. This is not about school closures--a lot more is going on and clearly there are problems that need to be addressed, not just blamed on one policy from two years ago.

Really? That's not what we're seeing. The learning loss alone is impacting behaviors. Kids are frustrated they can't read or do math.

Agree. Might be worth considering.

This fight would have been nothing but a small scuffle between two players until Northwest’s asst coach fed into it and assaulted a GHS coach who was breaking things up, and then the athletic director. It was really nothing like I’ve ever seen before. GHS players were sent into the school and under lock down for over an hour.

The secondary fight outside the gate occurred when NW fans were leaving and started things up again.

Large swaths of MoCo are trashy now. Howard or NoVa are simply much better environments to raise a kid.

Gaithersburg

It's really disgusting when a coach behaves like that. I can't help but think of -- was it Juwan Howard punching the Wisconsin coach when he was supposed to be shaking his hand? He should have been arrested and fired. That is just not okay. And then Wisdom Martin on Fox5 said on the news that "Hey, no one really cares about sportsmanship. That's just a thing people pretend is real." Uh, no, people do care. Decent people do anyway. I can't help but think of that whenever I see Wisdom Martin on the news -- then I change the channel. I will never respect him again.

uh.. aren't there field brawls between players in professional ball, too? Maybe professional sports is also in decline, and people should stop paying so much money for the tickets, and the players not paid so much. Let's put the money towards education. What say you?

The game of football and physically hitting each other is part of the problem. Really no need for it, it feeds aggression and causes brain injuries.

Horrible that the coaches were involved.

Let’s see how Jeff Sullivan handles this. Was this in alignment with MCPS and it’s RAISE initiative? Or is MCPS all optics and no action?

No, this happens at soccer games also.

Yes, this isn't anything they couldn't easily fix with diversity busing.

Weird how the fatal stabbing in 2005 after a football game was because of the 2020 pandemic

Germantown is the Baltimore of Montgomery County. We've put in place elected officials who are dragging this County down instead of up. Crime is through the roof and no one doing anything about it. Germantown specifically is full of drugs and thugs.

And football culture is brutal.
