But, literally, the actual people who pay taxes will either leave or not want to stay here if the city can’t properly enforce laws or keep residents safe. What is racist about that? It seems kind of racist to assume tax payers are a certain color. |
Let me guess: you're in your 20's? |
Or to put it in terms his generation understands: tell me you're in your 20's without telling me you're in your 20's. |
I'm a different poster. I'm 45, and moved to DC in 2002. yes, it feels decidedly LESS safe today than it did in 2012 when my youngest was born. Why is it hard to comprehend that? Some of us live in areas that have always had a crime problem, but we've seen it get worse with our very eyes -- carjackings outside our front door, mom and child shot by ATV rider, the little girl who was killed outside Nats Park during a game, etc. nyc also feels less safe than when I graduated from college there in the late 90s. |
DC wasn't "tough on crime" in 2012 or in 2002. |
| Huge swaths of DC were no go zones when I moved here in the ‘80s. |
I moved here in the late 90s, and definitely the city has improved since then. But I also feel like the places that were safer 3 years ago are less safe now. Idk if we are still facing results of pandemic policies (e.g. shuttered businesses) or if there is some other policies causing it. |
It’s the fact that you keep voting democrat even though crime gets worse. |
You think voting Republican is any better? On a per-capita basis, Republican-run municipalities like Jacksonville FL are often even worse than Democrat-run ones. Why? Because for all of the empty talk about being tough on crime, Republicans don't believe in taxes and thus don't have the revenue to provide services that reduce crime. |
I’m in my 50’s, I grew up in DC and it was less safe when I grew up. However, it’s becoming less safe again because people are willing to lower penalties that used to dissuade crime. Now “it’s only fair” apparently to not enforce laws or we just change them. It’s not a good. |
It was tougher. It was also tougher after the Clinton’s bill in the 90’s. I’m so tired of all the obstinate fks around here who seem to relish accommodating crime. It doesn’t make you virtuous or an ally. |
| Besides all the crime, murder victims etc don’t forget the noncooperation with police even if kids get murdered results in a surveillance state, cameras everywhere |
you can't be serious. We are headed for over 200 homicides this year. 2011-2014 we were at half that number! Did you just wake up in DC in 2020 or something? |
LOL. I wish liberals were a tenth as serious about murder and carjacking as they were about trespassing and vandalism at the Capitol. |
| Dc has been a dump for as long as I can remember . Senseless crime has been this was since the 60s. My father had a coworker at the state department that was shot and killed by a jaywalker. He honked his horn at the guy , the guy pulls out a gun and killed him. Probably was in the early 80s |
