Good summary |
Sorry, when you back out the blue cities, conservative states did just fine. |
DC needs an "open" Democratic primary in which independents are allowed to vote. That would result in more centrist candidates winning faster than anything. Any jurisdiction which is completely controlled by one party---whether it be the deep red states in the South and the midwest---or deep blue places like San Francisco or Portland---skews to the extremists. |

This bears repeating. |
PP is not misinformed. They know the stats. They're just trying to convince everyone else of the lies they want sold. |

We need a working crime lab. We need a tougher USAO who will prosecute. We need less laws like YRA and second look act. We need to arrest and prosecute anyone including teens who car jack people. We need broken windows policing. We need shoplifting taken seriously. Basically, a bit of “everything” is correct. Yes, there are pandemic related effects on crime. Yes, the George Floyd, BLM and even John Legend and Kim Kardashian celebrity led efforts to more broadly implement criminal justice reform have essentially advocated for alternatives to incarceration like restorative justice which I think sends a weak signal about being serious about combating violent crime. Yea, teens know they can steal “free cars” without consequence at present. Yes, speeders know they won’t lose their license because the district will renew licenses even for those with $12k in speeding tickets who went on to smash into and kill three people in Rock Creek park recently. Why can’t we crack down? Why can’t we legalize drugs and use social workers for overdose victims and nonviolent stuff, but actually get real and arrest and strongly prosecute all these violent criminals? Everyone is scared of social justice warriors who might yell at them. Really, we will lose our tax base if crime continues like this. |
| So funny seeing the lefties suffer the consequences of their own stupid actions |
Crime has *not* risen everywhere. In most cities, it's on the decline. Not in DC: https://twitter.com/cojobrien/status/1736755116575805887 |
This is a worthwhile summary. It actually began earlier, with the myth of “hands up, don’t shoot!” (And even the Wapo publicly debunked the myth). And the ideas were put on steroids with the injection of $18 billion dollars (yes billion) for the Open Society Foundations to spend on campaigns and lobbying for pro-crime bills after 2018. But yes, it’s not difficult to see how we got here. |
What is the common theme through the decades? |
Actually this is false. Nationwide, recently crime has fallen back to pre pandemic levels. DC is a MASSIVE outlier. Stop making excuses, and stop lying, we are f**king sick of the crime |
| Politicians have shown a remarkable ability to change their positions on a dime when threatened with losing office. If we send a message in the 2024 elections, others on the Council will learn the lesson. |
| We're having a crime emergency and we need to get more officers on the ground quickly. What about bringing in officers from other parts of the country the way we do with power crews when there is a major outage. I'm sure some jurisdictions have officers they could spare for a few months. We could pay a premium to attract them. |
