+1 and chances are she did a lot more to her body than just limit her calorie intake |
OP here. So thank you for the thoughts and no flaming. I started at 5’7” inches and 195, so I am definitely not anorexic. I have lost about 15 pounds and ultimately would like to lose another 35 pounds, which would bring me to a normal, nowhere near anorexic weight. But, another 35 to 40 weeks of 1000 calories a day - is that OK? I’m not hungry, so that absolutely could be a new normal that I can maintain.
I am already eating a lot of protein - minimum 20 g per meal, but often ending in the 70-100 g of protein a day, so do I need more protein than that? That seems pretty high already, although it is definitely a key to controlling my appetite. About weights to rev up metabolism - should I be going to the gym and doing machine weights or small hand dumbbells at home? I have a treadmill at home - so can do HITT is that better than walking for metabolism and weight loss? Is there a best time of day to do HIIT? Can I do it in the AM before I eat? I usually don’t eat until 11 or 12, and I don’t want to change that IF window. |
See a dietitian. You will ruin your metabolism and you are wrong about anorexia, you can have anorexia and be overweight. |
Losing weight harms your metabolism, but there is no evidence I am aware of that any specific calorie count or speed of weight loss worsens it. You can’t lose weight without doing some damage. |
I am also 5'7 but I'm early 50s. I learned that my ideal weight is supposed to be no less than 120 lbs and no more than 149 lbs. I just made 149 this week after being 167 for a while. I think you're going to have to keep going and drop more than you have. Depending on your build and age. |
The less you eat, the slower your metabolism becomes.
1000 calories/day + very low carb isn't sustainable and you'll just gain all the weight back as soon as you stop restricting. |
Anorexic doesn't mean skinny. It means someone severely restricting food intake. You can mess up your metabolism if you go any lower. I would definitely start weight lifting before reducing any more food. What do you eat in a day? Are you getting vitamins and minerals from produce? |
Very overweight people do eat this little sometimes for a long time, but it’s usually on a medically supervised program. I’m not sure if you’re at the weight level that would qualify for this type of low-calorie diet. You should definitely check in with a dietitian to make sure you are meeting all of your nutrition needs. |
OP again. I eat in a week - beef, chicken, fish, shrimp, cheese, high protein milk, low sugar/high protein yogurt, cottage cheese, lo carb/high fiber beads and tortillas, almond butter and other nuts, all kinds of leafy greens, and low carb veggies like mushrooms, summer squash, asparagus, brussels sprouts, broc, cauliflower, tomatoes, cukes, avocado, onions, peppers, etc. I take a multivitamin.
I do restrict food - no bread, rice, grains, beans, pasta, mashed potatoes, sugar, crackers, cake or cookies or candy or stuff made from flour. I feel like I have a pretty varied diet with what’s left? I also honestly don’t feel hungry, particularly if I am eating enough protein. |
I am 52 and 5 ‘10” and a nutritionist told me 1500 calories - nothing special just track calories and eat veggies and lean meet and brown rice/ pasta only. As span as I started doing this I lost 12 lbs, and then it slowed to about 1 lb a week. I am happy with this. I don’t exercise much but I will increase when I have the time. The nutritionist told me to plan on doing this for two years - no less - otherwise it will fail. Also they gave me an appetitive suppressant or would not be able to do it. |
Why no beans? They are a great source of calcium and you could eat those instead of consuming so much diary. That is a LOT of diary. Nuts are healthy but extremely high in calories and bad if roasted in oil and covered in salt. All your veggies sound great though. What about alcohol? |
Ps i forgot to mention i started at 196, so I am right there with you except a couple inches taller. |
TBH, I never liked beans but always loved dairy. As a protein source, beans are not great a great trade off when compared to just eating meat because they come with a lot of carbs. As a fiber source - also not great when compared with the low carb high fiber tortillas I eat. I never eat roasted nuts - just plain. No/rare alcohol - never been a big drinker, so this is not really a change for me. Yes, I know dairy and meat are higher fat than beans, but I am less concerned with cholesterol at the moment rather than just getting the weight off. |
What’s your plan once you’re off the appetite suppressant? Or do you plan to take it forever? |
Two wrongs don’t make a right. |
