NCAP North is in Germantown. But if KSAC and GP are convenient locations for OP I wouldn’t even think about North. |
you realize he wasn't convicted until 2013, and that the name didn't change until much after the abuse/conviction? He didn't even step down until 2012. Its gross. And people knew and didn't GAF |
The name change took place in September 2012. What happened was completely horrific and terrifying to any parent of a young female athlete, but it bears no relation to the current club administration. |
Um, plenty of people knew about it from back then in 2012, and some are still there. Google and read some articles. |

I am going to go ahead and assume they have learned their lesson- the reality is that organizations that own up to these type of problems are usually the ones who become more vigilant about them not happening again.
USA Swimming overall had (and continues to have) a lot of problems in this area and is also has one of the strictest SafeSport regulations as a result. It is an unfortunate truth that it is a problem in literally all youth sports and schools- so parents and children must be diligent. That said, I do not judge current NCap coaches based on what happened in the past. |
I'm not sure if you work there, but they didn't own up to it not ever, and they asked people to support him and write him letters? there was not some vigilant change made there. Current coaches he worked with still coach. Not all obv. but some. And no one else was canned when he left. But I agree Kids need to be looked after at all swim clubs and sports or school activities. |
I am PP. I knew about the incident before I enrolled my swimmer in NCap after trying out also at ASA. My belief is that my swimmers’ current coaches are not involved in this type of behavior but also that this type of behavior is much more widespread across many teams than we know- as evidenced from local schools, every school has had incidents like this and I suspect every swim team has, but it has not come to light. Is current admin did not take responsibility/make vigilant changes, well, there is a special spot in H=LL for them, isn’t there Watch your kids, folks- and talk to them early |
| I’m the OP. I’m aware of it.Thank you for all the insights.Does RMSC locations - any one in particular is better than another one? Thank you |
| Ksac junior coach is not very nice. |
RMSC Rockville is generally thought to be the most competitive location, followed by KSAC. I have also heard, like a PP said, that KSAC’s junior coach is nasty. |
Tom Ugast has been involved in NCAp the whole time, as have about a dozen coaches between different sites. A lot of people turned a blind eye to Ricks antics and shouldn’t be forgotten quickly |
No, no it’s not. |
Some are easier to get into than others. Location drives high demand at KSAC. As with any sport/club/location, it all comes down to the specific coach and how your kid works with them. I have had kids at KSAC a long time and have been extremely happy. This is the only club/location our family has been with. That said, I’ve never heard a good thing about the juniors coach (we’re a straight though advanced juniors family). At that age, hopefully things are ok at NCAP GP, but there’s been a lot of high level issues there in the last couple years. |
| Oh.Do we have to register for tryout for each location with RMSC? Thanks |
http://rmscswimming.com/tryouts-2022-information-county-sites Yes, you are supposed to tryout at the site you wish to practice at. |
