Ksac juniors works very little on stroke. |
You are giving wrong information about juniors. It does not matter who selects the coach. She is terrible, mean and no other coaches like working with her so there is a revolving door with coaches. |
Did I say anything about Juniors coach (bad or good) ? I just explained the tryout process about KSAC to OP (for a 10 years old). Mine was 6 years ago, and that was what we had experienced. Understand that you dislike Juniors coach, you may make your points elsewhere. Don't sh*t around on my post ! |
Explain what the real tryout is like. It’s a free for all with tons of kids and lots of mean ones who push their way to be first, hit and kid other kids in the water and the coaches look the other way. Very few kids go directly to advanced. Great your kids are superstars but had we known about the coach who sucked the joy out of swimming for my kid we would have picked a different site. The advanced coach is excellent. |

PP,
I have to agree with you. Juniors and Seniors are not desirable choice for kids who want to compete. It often depends on swimmers. KSAC move kids from low level to high level whenever they see good results from meet. I can give you an example A swimmer had been Junior from 9 to 12 ---- in the middle of season, the kid suddenly became very fast -- KSAC pulled the kid out from Juniors and placed into Advanced Seniors. Now the swimmer is at NTG. Of course majority of juniors will end up into seniors if they don't show any sign of progress. I also know two swimmers from Seniors to STG and then Advanced Seniors and NTG All I want to say they do move swimmers and they do so only when they see the swimmers make some progress. Don't assume my kid is a superstar swimmer. Mine is not and I can tell you mine has just been dumped into Seniors after 5 plus in advanced group. Just try to be fair/objective |

it was a typo'
It should be KSAC pulled the kid out from Juniors and placed into Advanced Juniors. |
i was just told this exact thing by a current asa parent. asa is all about conditioning and will not improve your stroke. |
Agree, but this isn't what this mom is even asking. With RMSC its all about speed, not technique and they only care about the top swimmers. Ours just swim for exercise and fun so we don't care but I really wish we did an alternative with juniors as the coach took all the joy away from swimming. We were so happy to move up to seniors. With covid/no distancing/no transparency our kids are barely swimming and we are basically paying to hold the slot till things get better. Really disappointed in how they handled Covid last year. The juniors and seniors is a money grab and the focus is only on the top kids. Early on we paid for weekly private lessons. OP, if you go RMSC, consider private lessons for stroke (we stopped them due to covid or we'd still be doing them). You either pay for better coaching at a private club (if you get it) or RMSC and private lessons. Once you get past RMSC juniors - Advanced or Seniors the prices go way up - so when you are comparing prices, look at future prices as the child gets older and not just juniors. We had a huge shock to see the price from Juniors to Seniors and the swim times are terrible. |
RMSC is a huge club and it depends on which group they are in and the specific coach. There was little conditioning or stroke help in KSAC. Lots of screaming and other stuff, but no real help. You have to pay for private lessons if you want stroke help. They rarely did more than a 50 for conditioning. Advanced Jr. coach is far far better but there is no guarantee your child will make it there. |
| I would trust the NCAP coaches to put your swimmer in the right group. It is based in part on age and times, but they really do consider what will be best from a developmental standpoint. There is stroke work, especially early in the year, and the sets get progressively more challenging. A number of people really love RMSC and a few friends I spoke to today are happy with their programs, including a few Advanced Juniors at KSAC. With that said, there are a few swimmers who moved from RMSC to NCAP and are really happy with the move. And generally, to the extent there is movement at NCAP Prep at the Bronze Age group, it does seem like more move from other programs, including RMSC, to NCAP than vice-versa. |
Thanks. If my DC makes advanced Junior group at KSAC is it worth it to join than NCAP prep bronze. Money is also a factor . There is a big difference . |
| A few years ago, I was at a meet where an NCAP coach was yelling at a kid who appeared to be under 10. The yelling was so bad that the kid was reduced to tears. This has stuck with me and would be a reason I would look elsewhere. |
| I heard KSAC coaches are also harder. But hoping my DC makes it to advanced. Looks like the Coach for advanced age group is much better. |

OP.
Why not ASA ? ASA is small team but very competitive. They treat all swimmers like stars -- And the group placement policy is transparent, for example Advanced Seniors Group Group Requirements: -must be in high school - 90% of practices are required -two Junior Champ qualifying times My swimmer has 4 Juniors Champ qualifying times but was dumped into Seniors Group at KSAC. |
It’s very hard to get a spot at ASA because it’s small |
