DC Public and Public Charter Schools
Where can we meet so that I can sell you that bridge? |
NP. Sure, they are wearing them, but they are kids. Those masks, even those child-size KN95s and KF94s, don't provide a tight seal and have plenty of air leakage around them. They are not providing anywhere close to the protection you think. That's why the highest quality studies of masks in schools have shown no significant effect (Spain, Finland). We just had a Covid case in my kid's class, and none of the other kids, most of whom are unmasked, ended up catching it. We are seeing more cases at our school, but they don't usually end up spreading to others in the classroom. Cases are going up everywhere, masks or not. And it doesn't matter unless we keep freaking out about it. |
A cold is miserable. I don't know if I had covid or a cold but it lasted two weeks and still have lingering cough and other issues from a month ago. Vaccinated doesn't mean much right now except to keep you out of the hospital. |
Masks absolutely help. The are far better than an outbreak like you had. |
| PP calm down. Seriously substitute the word cold for COVID and realize how nuts you sound. Do we mask kids during cold and flu season? No. Get vaccinated, get boosted if eligible and carry on. Most people have had COVID already. It’s never going away completely. No reason to mandatory mask or close schools. Get a grip parents. |
NP. And...? Do you want to keep masking kids (or yourself) in perpetuity to avoid a cold? I'd rather keep getting a cold once a year than living in a constant state of vigilance about infectious disease, which has always been a normal part of human life. |
| I also want to add my kid had COVID and she has asthma and had one day of mild fever, runny nose for three days and that was it. The vaccine works in that it lessons the impact. How do y’all live with so much worry? |
What makes you think we had an outbreak? It's not an outbreak when the cases not connected to each other. And you can keep repeating the mantra that "masks help" forever (which I know is an article of faith for many), but ultimately you need to show us some good data to prove it. |
Umm, tell that to my niece who was on the verge of going to the ER. |
Janney covid cases are way up too.

Why is mask wearing contentious all of a sudden? Of course it helps. I could cite about a thousand articles, but here's one from the NYT that sums up several studies. https://www.nytimes.com/article/covid-masks-protection-stats.html |
Oh do colds kill people and cause brain damage? Never knew that. |
| It's up everywhere. My Lafayette K student still wears a mask. Fingers crossed. We all have a cold right now (tested negative last weekend, this past weekend, and yesterday) so there's other stuff going around too. |
Agreed, allergies are also really bad right now read this! https://www.accuweather.com/en/us/washington/20006/allergies-weather/327659 |
Also have a cold that's now annoyingly in its second week. Almost daily negative covid tests, so it's not that, and everyone else in my household is fine. Something else is going around. |
