only 5 qtr at the target i went.

Just order the 6 quart and write her a note that it’s coming. I have the artisan bc I don’t need more than that, but there are certain cooking appliances or tools where I use a very specific product for a reason. Your wife may need the bigger size if she bakes a lot, or if there are additional features on the 6 quart that she needs. I think it would be a pain to return one of those heavy mixers after Christmas. That’s like adding a chore to her gift. Sorry to be the bearer of bad Christmas news….!

what can you make only with a 6 not a 5?

From what I can tell on the website, the 5qt options are all tilt-head, while the 6qt are bowl-lift. HUGE difference in terms of stability. We have a 6qt bowl-lift at home, my mom has a 5qt tilt-head. I won't knead bread dough in her mixer when we are visiting there, the mixer sounds like it is going to rattle right off the counter. Cookie dough and everything just sound and feel more stable in ours.

If she bothered to specify a size, that probably means she did her research and knows what she wants. Don't buy her a lesser version... Especially if your only attempt was a trip to Target on 12/23. Try a specialty cooking store. It won't be here by Saturday, but you can tell her it's coming.

The abbreviation is qrt, not qtr.

I have the bowl lift and would be less happy with the tilt head. Since she specified, I recommend either ordering the right one and let her know it’s on its way, or pick one out together on Xmas. Fwiw, the 6 qt one is on sale right now at Crate & Barrel and can be picked up in Clarendon on 12/31. It’s also on sale at Bed Bath and Beyond and available to ship now. Just get her the one she asked for; for this item, I think it’s more important than having the physical item under the tree.

But actually it’s qt

I cook a lot and I have a Bosch mixer but I’d guess that the 6qt has other features she wants.

He’s a day early, and he went to target!

This reminds me of that 80s movie with Schwarzenegger as the bad dad who forgot to get his kid the hot toy, then he drives all around trying to find it, but can only find the crappy sidekick doll.

Why does that matter, exactly? You went to one store the day before Christmas and just want to give her something else now? You suck.

The 5 qt is a completely different gift then the 6 qt. It’s like asking for a Lexus and getting a Toyota.

A quick website search tells me crate and barrel doesn’t have one within 300 miles.
