I completely agree. I actually also have both the 5 quart and the 6 quart. I don’t see a big difference and prefer the 5 quart. But each to their own. If I didn’t have either, I’d be happy with whatever I got.

I am 53 and just use a hand mixer? What am I missing?

You didn’t ask for one for Christmas. That’s what you’re missing.

It might not be the size, but the mechanism. Is the 6qt a lift bowl and the 5qt is not?

If she makes cookies and bread and cooks for large volume - double, triple batches - I would actually get her a Bosch.

If she just wants a stand mixer as a pretty item that looks nice on her counter and she’ll make whipped cream or mash potatoes once a year, the 5qt is fine as long as it’s in her preferred color.

I’m that kind of wife. I give my husband very specific details about what I want, where to get it. He usually screws it up because he only half listens.

If she specified the 6 qt and bakes frequently, it is likely the exact one she wants for reasons and she has looked into it.

If she rarely ever bakes she may not even realize there is a 5 qt and a 6 qt. She may have just sent you a link to ‘a mixer’ but wasn’t paying that close attention.

If you think she intentionally asked for the 6qt and you can’t find it, get her a gift card to Kitchenaid or WS with a sweet note and apology you weren’t able to buy before they sold out

Nope adults in my family do not really exchange gifts that way. I would have bought what I wanted when I saw a good price.

PP here. You’d love my wife. She always either asks exactly what I want or takes me with her to buy it. And she shops early so I have it on the holiday.

DW and I text each other screenshots of carts before checking out to verify. Not romantic, but I’m also getting the coffee maker I want.

Why do wives ask for very specific items that they could easily buy for themselves? (I’m a wife.) Is the thrill of pulling off wrapping paper really that great?

Her husband probably asked her what she wanted.....and look, even when she tells him exactly, he is trying to giver her something else because he went to ONE store and they didn't have it. This is not a guy who will thoughtfully select a gift.

Exactly. If she asked for the 6 then she wants the 6. Order it online OP, wrap a picture of it and tell her it is on the way.

Same. Or I will send the links with the page already set up to color and size (clothes) because my husband has been known to get overwhelmed and confused otherwise. Sigh. He is a dear and I love him but ordering online is not his best skill.

Just another appliance that you end up not using after the first month
You will need a lot of cabinet space too

Not true for those of us who are bakers. My Kitchen-Aid is 25 years old and probably my most-used small appliance outside of the toaster oven. Get the woman what she wants. It will last a lifetime.

This reminds me of that 80s movie with Schwarzenegger as the bad dad who forgot to get his kid the hot toy, then he drives all around trying to find it, but can only find the crappy sidekick doll.

Ha, my boys loved that movie!

I was forced to watch that stupendously awful movie (Jingle All the Way) by my 12 year old on Monday. He’s binge-watching Christmas flicks and it has been a very painful experience.

OP, please heed the advice you’ve gotten here. If your wife told you she wants the 6qt one, the reason she did this was so you would not buy her the 5 qt model.

Order it from Williams Sonoma - the big one. Target does not sell the good ones. Or, buy the gift card for the amount at WS and tell her you didn’t know which color she wanted so she can select her favorite.
