Oddly, Maret kept talking yesterday about how the city needs more public park space for all our children, as though DC has the same responsibility to provide capacity for Maret teams as it does public school teams. I just don’t get it. No other independent school seems to have this bizarre expectation. |
Actually, no. DC has invested in the field. Maret bought some (less expendive) depreciable assets. And DPR does maintain fields. Maybe not to the same standard, but good enough to use. |
That’s patently false. You obviously don’t know anything about the school. Just like the previous poster jumped to conclusions about a thread being deleted ‘by Maret’ when the owner of this site deleted it. The owner of this site said the same 4 or 5 people who keep posting on this thread were the exact same people posting on the attempted private school thread. |
That’s interesting to me, too. One of my kids is in private and one in public. Both schools have so many teams that they have problems scheduling practice and match times on their own fields, yet neither attempts to hijack other fields for its own use. Sometimes it does take holding some practices before school. At Wilson, for instance, boys varsity soccer regularly practices on the Wilson field at 6am. I suggest that Maret look into maximizing use of their own field by scheduling matches and practices before school. |
Wilson uses Fort Reno, a DPR field, for baseball, soccer and tennis. Which is as it should be. It's right across the street. Which is really common, DC went on a building spree in the 1930's and built a bunch of schools, and many of them were put next to rec centers, the thinking was they were complementary facilities. Hardy is really an oddball, a DCPS school very close to two DPR facilities -- Jelleff and Guy Mason -- and it can't use either of them. |
You do realize how ridiculous this sounds right? |
No point explaining because you simply have no comprehension about how budgetary resources are allocated in public or private agencies. Are Hardy parents this clueless? |
You realize what you wrote here is a total lie, right? |
My first time posting on this thread was today after reading the McKenna article and I don’t see anything false I what I said. |
Giant wanking motion to the BS from the Maret poster here. They won the allocation due to corruption. You won, just own it. |
Ha ha ha, joke is on you. There is an actual documented process for resrouce allocation. But you are a Maret booster so you are used to the non-public backdoor, wink wink process. And I'm the poster way up thread that believes the kids getting screwed the most are those that are stuck in a basement. I may be clueless but I'm a Deal parent that hates bad public policy. https://cfo.dc.gov/page/overview-budget-formulation-process |
Other schools do it, including Wilson, so not very ridiculous. Ask a hockey or a swimming parent about crazy before school practices! |
So according the their website, Maret wants the city to spend millions of dollars upgrading the ellington field so they can use jelleff? Is that a joke? Yes, ellington needs to be redone but that shouldn't be a subsitute. It will take lots of money and several years before that field is ready to use. And lots of other DCPS schools, such as School without walls, will need to use it. Can't believe Maret decided to post the update on the website and can't believe they seem so committed to their own crazy version of the truth. |
Even Elissa Silverman talked about bringing Ellington online for more school children to use. But precious neighbors want to keep it for their giant dog park instead of having it as a usable safe place for children. As a matter of fact, the Hardy PTO reps there also agreed that Ellington would be a great place for Hardy. |
The Hardy reps said it would be useful, not “great.” But it was noted that it still has deficiencies— no parking, no locker rooms, (no bathrooms?), not regulation size currently. Ellington Field is needed, but that doesn’t change the fact that DPR had no business renewing the Maret deal for Jelleff. |
