Yet we elect mayors that “inspire” us or debate their positions on international affairs. Things that a mayor has no impact on. Most humans are just dumb, we need technocrats as mayors. I miss Bloomberg, you could literally see the improvements made to the city week-to-week, everything was getting cleaner, parks improved etc. I could have cared less if he was pro Israel or Palestine, it wasn’t his job at that time nor should it be.

The media pushes him to answer these question because the public wants the answers. Even though the answers are irrelevant to the job of mayor, if this was congress or the senate then it would be relevant.

People care about improving garbage collection in NYC, but they also don’t care about the details. It would be great to see the proposals, but the common man just wants it off the street and aren’t interested enough to actually learn the positions and vote based on it. Even though it has far more impact on their lives than his thoughts on the ME.

Nobody makes more garbage than a city full of leftists. He better be good at sanitation

Love it.

This is amazing 99 pages of the Democratic primary for mayor of NYC. Establishment dem and republicans(whatever they are now days) losing their minds. Right wing Jews are saying they have to be given assurances that Israel will be allowed to innocent Palestinians and continue suppressing any criticism of Israel by force of law.

Meanwhile Democrats elected representatives are being assassinated, assaulted by federal law enforcement, arrested by federal law enforcement, etc. Masked paramilitaries are kidnapping US citizens off the streets in Democratic areas.

This just shows the rot in the Democratic Party. You think the establishment “moderate” democrats would read the room. You lost to Trump. Now you lose to Zohran and are more upset with that vs anything else.

No it couldn’t unless Israel gave up the Palestinian prisoners Hamas was asking for in exchange which Israel quietly did anyway. The war makes no sense at this moment because Israel avenged by tally count a long long time ago. The war is just Bibi’s way to avoid jail time or death for himself because his own cabinet ministers call for removing Bibi “by force” if he stops the war. Bibi is more scared of his own aides and the Israeli people /left wing and Supreme Court than he is of hamas

And that has what to do with how to run a city in America? New Yorkers are being asked to elect a mayor - you know, snow plows on the street after a storm, schools, public safety, that kind of thing. Absolutely no one besides progressives wants a city administrator who is fixated on some conflict a gazillion miles away.

I really don't think a young Gaza activist is winning Staten Island, Queens, Brooklyn, or the Bronx. The trust fund children in Manhattan are not a majority in NYC. And New Yorkers have been perfectly content to vote for Republicans like Bloomberg or the pre-drunk Giuliani for mayor when Democrats offered nothing better. And those were successful multi-term mayorships. Mamdani is not a serious man. He's a 34 year old Manhattanite who's never had a real job in his life. The TikTok pablum might be exciting for young progressives who are fixated on Gaza or trans issues or whatever, but that is not something working and middle class voters in NYC care about.

If I had to bet, I think Mayor Adams is going to win again, even if he spends the next four years taking human growth supplements and hanging out in night clubs. Once again, Democrats offered terrible candidates - a disgraced serial sexual harasser or some far left young thing with no practical experience in anything. It's a problem. Until Democrats get decent candidates that can speak to working and middle class people over the age of 25, they are going to continue to have a hard time, even in NYC.

While we are discussing awful Republican “thoughts,” there is an ultra qualified candidate running against incumbent scumbag Boebert.

Mamdani has stated repeatedly that his focus will be on NYC. He can't do anything about the fact that everyone keeps questioning him on irrelevant foreign policy stances. Almost like they want to distract and divide. 🤔

Let’s be honest here. Anyone pushing communal housing on current privately owned property is guilty of creating division. This is AMERICA, not RUSSIA or CUBA.

Let's be honest here. The cost of housing has exploded largely because we have a parasitic rentier class using the basic need of housing as an investment vehicle. The person suggesting we put a stop to such exploitation is not the divisive one. Landlords offer no value. They are an unnecessary middle man. And communal living is a more sustainable and economical practice, and it harms no one to make it available as an option for people looking for affordable housing.

Paid or not, you are Mamdani PR team. “LANDLORDS OFFER NO VALUE” is exactly the anti-American propaganda he pushes.

Well, they are not wrong when it comes to NYC. There is a parasitic rentier class that uses real estate in Manhattan as nothing more than investment vehicles. The Times had something a while ago that showed how one-third of all apartments in Manhattan are empty. Take a look at the Time Warner building or Hudson Yards or 432 Park Avenue after nightfall. They are empty. A lot of Manhattan exists simply as a place to park money for wealthy non-residents. I don't care for Mamdani, but I do think NYC should tax the hell on speculative residential real estate. It needs to be discouraged, which will open up more apartments to actual residents and lower costs.

Quick Google of 432 Park Ave leads one to see who were the perverted two people that built it. The building was never safe enough to be a residence. But if you’re well-connected socialites, your celebrity status and wealth can pay for anything.

Are you suggesting that speaking against land-lording, ie. Housing exploitation is somehow anti-American?

America was built, at least in theory, on equality. No kings, no lords, no serfs. Landlords are not necessary to the function of the housing industry. They are middlemen. It is not anti-American to state these facts, and if you believe that it is, you fundamentally misunderstand the foundational principles on which this country was built.

Believe it or not, some people prefer renting to owning. But you and your luxury beliefs demand you think otherwise.

Most of that is international money. We should restrict international investment in real estate before we go to extreme lengths on domestic investment. Just stop the Russian $$ from buying real estate.

Which foreign country invests the most dollars in American land?

China, no doubt, considering farmland. China and Bill Gates. Yes, Bill is born here, but he should live in China.

People not wishing to own their homes does not necessitate land leeches. Also, if owning a home were not the massive hurdles it is today, few people would say they'd rather pay a landlord than own the home they live in. It shouldn't be a luxury for people to own the home they live in. And we shouldn’t have a class of people commodifying basic needs like housing.
