City budgets are spent on Sanitation, Education, Public Safety, and Infrastructure (such as roads, schools, parks). Yet we elect mayors that “inspire” us or debate their positions on international affairs. Things that a mayor has no impact on. Most humans are just dumb, we need technocrats as mayors. I miss Bloomberg, you could literally see the improvements made to the city week-to-week, everything was getting cleaner, parks improved etc. I could have cared less if he was pro Israel or Palestine, it wasn’t his job at that time nor should it be.
Mamdani has stated repeatedly that his focus will be on NYC. He can't do anything about the fact that everyone keeps questioning him on irrelevant foreign policy stances. Almost like they want to distract and divide. 🤔
Let’s be honest here. Anyone pushing communal housing on current privately owned property is guilty of creating division. This is AMERICA, not RUSSIA or CUBA.
Let's be honest here. The cost of housing has exploded largely because we have a parasitic rentier class using the basic need of housing as an investment vehicle. The person suggesting we put a stop to such exploitation is not the divisive one. Landlords offer no value. They are an unnecessary middle man. And communal living is a more sustainable and economical practice, and it harms no one to make it available as an option for people looking for affordable housing.
Paid or not, you are Mamdani PR team. “LANDLORDS OFFER NO VALUE” is exactly the anti-American propaganda he pushes.
Are you suggesting that speaking against land-lording, ie. Housing exploitation is somehow anti-American? America was built, at least in theory, on equality. No kings, no lords, no serfs. Landlords are not necessary to the function of the housing industry. They are middlemen. It is not anti-American to state these facts, and if you believe that it is, you fundamentally misunderstand the foundational principles on which this country was built.
Believe it or not, some people prefer renting to owning. But you and your luxury beliefs demand you think otherwise.
People not wishing to own their homes does not necessitate land leeches. Also, if owning a home were not the massive hurdles it is today, few people would say they'd rather pay a landlord than own the home they live in. It shouldn't be a luxury for people to own the home they live in. And we shouldn’t have a class of people commodifying basic needs like housing.
