Looks like a new Gaza war has started

Why hasn’t anyone on the left suggested we just send social workers into Israel and Gaza to deescalate the situation?

For those of you making repeated antisemitic comments which get deleted, understand that all you are doing for those of us who aren’t Jewish but were horrified by 10/7 and are reconsidering our positions is strengthening our support for Israel.

This thread as a small microcosm and watching what has happened globally post 10/7 has made me a stronger supporter of Israel than I’ve ever been before, significantly so. Why? Because it is crystal clear to me now that if Jews do not have a strongly defended homeland, they will suffer another Holocaust. I did not realize how many people around the world existed that would explicitly cheer that on if it happened and in fact jump in to help. That has been a devastating realization.

Keep doing what you want, but when I read posts that come straight out of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, it teaches me nothing but support for Israel.

All the relentless comparisons to ISIS and Nazis are hyperbolic. There is no existential threat to Israel or the Jewish people. There does seem to be an existential threat to the Palestinian people.

I am for pulling out of the MidEast permanently. Let them solve their problems without any more US money or interference.

Hamas begs to differ— Pg. 882 14:25 (video)

“They tricked us. They fooled us”
“Who tricked you?”
“Hamas leaders in their homes in Qatar and Turkey— They speak in the names of al Aqua and the Muslims”

“How did they trick you?”
“The left us in Israel”
“They promised us $10,000 and an apartment?”

“To do what?”
“In Gaza, whoever brings the kidnapped or captured gets a stipend”
“Cleanse homes”

“And does the Quran and Islam say to do so?”
“No”

“According to Islam, aren’t you a Muslim?”
“Yes”

“The Islam tells you to do so? Come and kill?”
“No”

“Don’t you think these actions are like Isis? To kill civilians without distinction?”
“Correct”
“The prophet said, do not kill women, do not kill a child”
“The religion doesn’t allow distortion, abuse”

“According to the acts carried out and what you saw, what’s the difference between these acts and the ones carried out by Isis?”
“There is no difference in terms of abuse”
“No, killing babies is not according to Islam”

“Names of leaders?”
“Sinwar, Haniyeh, Abu Halad aka Mohammad Deif”
“They are the heads of Hamas”

“And you say they are ones who destroyed Gaza?”
“Yes. In everything! Do you see there’s something left in Gaza? No”

“Gaza was destroyed and who destroyed it?”
“They did with their own hands, and we with our own hands. We destroyed it

Same. I realize now I can’t just let my Jewish friends sort this one out on their own. Do I support the current government of Israel’s policies wrt to settlements? Hell no. But I support with my whole heart protecting the right of Israel to exist.

But wait, there’s more! The hospital comes complete with easy access to Hamas tunnels.

Or, maybe..... hitting civilian targets is part of their plan. After what they did on 10/7, this seems more likely.

Well maybe if Hamas collapsed the building and trapped these people it would be close to a whatabout. Israelis are targeting civilians blowing up hospitals, churches, school, aid supplies, etc. They have leveled most of north Gaza trapping civilians under the rumble. What religion would condone such violence against helpless civilians?

Israel is setting the rules that civilians are fair game.

They’ve been leveling Palestinian homes long before October.

I don’t understand the outrage that their adversary is following their lead.

10/7 didn’t happen then?

Huh? Nice strawman.

I just pointed out that Israel frequently bombed Palestinian homes BEFORE October 7th.

Israel has been killing Palestinian civilians for decades. And they’re shocked that Hamas is fighting back the same way? Cry me a river.

Just going to point out that Hamas has been lobbing missiles at Israel for years now.
Do you expect them not to respond? You think it is ok for Hamas to continue to bomb Israel and Israel is just supposed to sit by and take it?

The way the Israeli military treats Palestinian civilians is the entire reason was elected in the first place.

Israel has been killing Palestinian civilians longer than most of us have been alive.

Do you really want to go back in history to the beginning of all of this?

Or would you rather continue to justify why Hamas is morally superior?

I don’t think Hamas is morally superior.

I think Hamas (or something like it) was inevitable given Israel’s treatment of Gaza. The Israeli military behaved like terrorists towards Palestinians. Of course, the Palestinians responded by electing their own terrorists to represent them and now they can’t get them out of power (much like Israelis can’t get Netanyahu out.)

This is a showdown between a terrorist state and a terrorist organization. As always, civilians are the ones who suffer.

So what explains the Palestinian terrorism before the state of Israel even existed?

What explains the Grand Mufti's virulent anti-Semitism and support of Hitler during WWII?

I'm trying to decide whether your history or your logic is more flawed.

Let’s go to the videotape …

People from Eastern Europe and other far flung regions of the world organizing to dispossess the indigenous people of their land through tactics that can only be characterized as the advent of modern day terrorism, including brutal massacres of entire villages.

Blowing up hotels to coerce one-sided political action.

Hijacking airliners to coerce one-sided political action.

Extra-judicial executions of foreign officials and journalists to intimidate the press and control the narrative.

Establishing a cottage industry built around distorting facts and circumstances on the ground to cultivate that never-ending narrative of victimhood, and ensuring a steady flow of foreign military and financial aid in exchange for hegemony.

75 years of dehumanizing the indigenous population, along with a 60:1 casualty rate over that period.

At least 60 Palestinian deaths or serious injuries for every Israeli death or serious injury.

Tl/dr: Acquaint yourself with actual historical information about the incidents surrounding and leading to the formation of the State of Israel before you embarrass yourself trying to convince others that the indigenous people initiated the conflict.

Hmmm, among the many shortcomings and misstatements in your post, you neglected to include dates.

Here are a few that might ring a bell:

Jerusalem, April 1920 and the aftermath.

Hebron 1929.

UN Resolution 181.

1948.

And so forth, and so on, ad infinitum.

The early history of this land is one of unremitting Palestinian violence against the Jews.

It’s a witty reference to the defund the police stuff that is now backfiring in cities across America.

I’m a Democrat but have really started to despise the left-wing of my party. They’re such morons.

The memorial of a Palestinian-American Journalist, who was killed by an Israeli army sniper last year, has been razed and the road destroyed. Even dead journalists are a threat. This is in the occupied West Bank where "the good Palestinians who submit" live.

And broader Arab violence. People forget that it was the Arab League that started the 1948 war, not Palestinian Arabs specifically.

They forget that before the Camp David Accords, Egypt was arguably the most frequent instigator of conflict with Israel. Even though Israel didn’t take any land from Egypt and Egyptian sovereignty was never in question.

It’s easy to forget because Israel and Egypt work together now, but that was unthinkable between 1948 and 1978.

People also forget that between 1948 and 1967, Egypt ran Gaza and Jordan ran the West Bank.

If you’re going to have an opinion about this situation, learn the history. Otherwise, go spend your time doing something else.

Yes. I despise Netanyahu and Likud. I want them out. But my eyes have been entirely opened to the number of people out there who would kill my friends and their children just because they are Jewish. I didn’t realize how bad it was.

I cannot believe how many grossly antisemitic posts I’ve seen here on DCUM, and I’m grateful to Jeff for his willingness to delete them quickly.

Have barely heard a peep lately about what is to become of the hostages Hamas took, no one seems to care about them because talking about them doesn’t advance anyone’s agenda. I don’t think bombing the shit out of Gaza made them any safer.

Their welfare is a big reason the ground invasion hasn’t happened.

LOL -the ground invasion hasn’t happened because there will be large numbers of IDF casualties. That’s the nature of urban warfare. One only needs to look at Iraq to understand that. This has nothing to do with some heart tugging humanitarian gesture to the Palestinians.

Tulane situation, planned protest near Crown Heights on Jewish Sabbath, the list goes on. Things are frightening for Jews — please show some empathy.

Nobody is advocating to kill Jews. That is the biggest strawman.

What I find terrifying is that many Israeli supporters equate slaughtering Palestinians with their survival. Anyone who doesn’t want the genocide of Palestinian children is an antisemite who wants Jews to die.

That binary is horrifying.

People like you believe it and support the indiscriminate bombing of Gaza.

People in the United States believe it too and a 6 year old kindergartener was stabbed to death to preemptively protect Jews from antisemitism. His mom barely survived the attack.

I don’t support terrorism of any kind, however it’s clear to me that the only people in danger of genocide are Palestinians. Since the conflict intensified this month, thousands of Palestinian children have been killed in Gaza. And a Palestinian boy was brutally stabbed to death in the United States for being Palestinian.

Meanwhile, the media narrative in the United States remains that Jewish students have never been in more danger (zero Jewish students have been killed in the United States this month, while a Palestinian kindergartener was stabbed to death.)

I think it’s a terrifying time to be a Palestinian. I speak out for them because everyday the devastation worsens exponentially.
