What is going on with student loans?

The GOP could go on losing if they restart student loan payments. Right now the best thing that can happen to the GOP is for Biden to go all boomer and demand student debtors start making payments again.

I notice nothing from president Biden, nothing from the WH, and nothing from their friendly media outlets. It tells me the party and admin messaging orders went out to let this die. They don't plan to fight this. They got what they wanted in squeezing some votes out of this, now it's over. At least that's my read of it.

Most likely, but Bezos and other elites want Biden to start up student loan payments again: https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/11/16/student-loan-moratorium-extension/

Guess they want to see if Millennials and GenZ show up to vote enough or if they can be totally hosed by "helping fight inflation" while the rest of the population does absolutely nothing to bring inflation down.

You can’t tout a great economy and near full employment and then continue the pause……..makes no sense but little of the democratic economic policies do. Also with the midterms past you don’t need to buy votes for the time being. Oh and restarting payment will help to ease inflation.

Did we ever get around to solving college affordability, or do you still need to drop 1k a month into a 529 from the time your kid is a fetus?

That's never going to be fixed. Colleges and education system have a far stronger lobby than student debtors. Lot of college admins don't want to lose access to billions in federal aid.

This is a start:

The WH is doing what it can. Congress needs to act on this.

Typical democratic plan…..fix no structural problems, reward deadbeats, buy votes, bilk taxpayers and then move on to the next useless free money program. Bravo and well done.
