Walz admits he’s a socialist and had socialist values. We are not a socialist country.

Lol, no he doesn’t. Republicans are so weird.

This. Feeling politically homeless right now. I can’t bring myself to vote for either extreme so will probably sit this one out.

I don't believe you are what you say you are. But, even if you view this as a "lesser evil" situation (it's not, Harris/Walz is a good option); but even if you viewed it as a "lesser evil" situation, the moral thing to do is to vote in a way that helps protect your friends and neighbors from the greater evil.

I’m the PP and truly can’t believe what I just read. You’re lecturing me on who is a “good option” here, as if I couldn’t possibly make my own decision? Then telling me what the “moral thing” to do is? Not sure if you’re aware, but your sanctimony is exactly what makes me not interested in voting for the Ds. Not a Trump voter, but definitely not a Harris voter either. Lots of us out there, but do stay safe in your echo chamber.

DP Oh I see only you can tell what the moral thing is? You are obsessed with labeling anyone who disagrees with you as leftist. Who cares what you maga people think? Go to a Trump rally and join your brother of white nationalists. Chant jews will not replace us while flagging a swastika. Talk to the other rally goes about Jews, gays, leftist, etc. Have fun bet you will fit right in till they come for you.

Attacking everyone as a racist and a bigot is a huge overreaction. Most people really are not racist and most people would never hang out with people who have swastika flags. It makes you look nuts to say such things.

Thank you. People like the PP are making exactly the opposite point than the one they think they’re making. I avoid people like that at all costs.

Yes, we are. You just call it Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, the GI Bill and pretty much everything the military receives in terms of housing, the ACA, minimum wage laws, maximum hours, child labor laws, subsidizing higher education/home ownership, FEMA, section 8 housing, subsidies for energy companies and agriculture.

Military members receive a compensation and benefits package for their service. That’s not socialism.

That's true. But you don't think it's subsidized by the Federal government?!?!? Hahahahaha.

From the U.S. Army's website: "the Army provides allowances to offset the cost of living. These allowances are monies provided for specific needs, such as food or housing when the government does not provide for that specific need. Most allowances are not taxable, which is an additional imbedded benefit of military pay."

There's also a: Housing Allowance, Rental Ceilings, Utility/Maintenance Allowance, Move-In Allowance, Basic Allowance for Subsistence, Clothing Allowance, Family Separation Allowance, Family Subsistence Supplemental Allowance, Cost of Living Allowance.

The fact that you don't see this as the socialism that it is is hilarious.

The entire idea of our military embraces core socialist principles of providing for the collective good and ensuring that basic needs are met through government support.

Medicare is not socialized medicine because the doctors and hospitals are privately operated – the government pays them, but does not own or employ them.

I hope he campaigns with his glasses on. He looks weird without them. With them on, he looks like he could be the brother of Steve Martin. He looks more presidential and I take him more seriously with the glasses on.

The question I ask myself, is if God forbid something were to happen to our dear Kamala, would this man make a great POTUS? He has to convince the American people that he would.

Maybe. But for this Gen X mom, I take a couple points of his performance for that aside. "You see what I did there?" He should have delivered the line totally straight.

I thought it played more like a Dad joke that way.

Really? I was more disappointed by his “joke”. I was hoping for an elevation in the rhetoric, not a dumbing down.

This is an anonymous forums, so I can admit this. As a teenager, I basically did the couch thing. (The Vance jokes are still funny, though)

Anyone is better than Trump. I am just happy Dems did the right thing finally (they could have stupidly put some other minority on the ticket or kept Joe). I feel like Dems have a chance now.

Full blown. It's all trans in bathrooms and George Floyd/riots! That's all they got. Wait until they start hearing him speak! This is going to be delicious.

The riots and overall breakdown of law and order in our cities is where the Democrats are most vulnerable. Expect to hear about Kamala’s San Francisco and Tim’s Minneapolis nonstop for the next three months.

Did January 6th not happen? I don't understand how GOP are so concerned about some riots and not others. It's weird.

Bingo

All riots should be equally disdained regardless of the issue behind it because more often than not it's some nut job extremist thugs who don't actually care about the issue behind it....but as such should also be equally prosecuted and equally thought of as wrong regardless of the issue. It's never ok to destroy property regardless of the issue or topic period.

I agree. I read an article about The riots in MN and poor reaction time. Walz was very honest about it all and how it was not handled well. Now contrast that with Trump who still thinks January 6th was a good thing.

True - but I also know many Dems who think the BLM riots were a good thing too.

Dems supported the peaceful protests and criticized where the looting and property damage took place.

Well I'll rephrase,"I have personally spoken to more than one Dem who feels the looting and property damage was justified". But we are going off-topic now. Back to Tim Walz....honestly...I don't care how he reacted to the BLM riots because it was an extremely difficult time. I also don't care about anything he did or didn't do 20 yrs ago. I do care about his political views and social ideology which are too progressive for my taste. Not saying it's going to make me vote for Trump but I am now strongly considering staying home...and this is coming from someone who was pushing their DD to go out and vote because of the importance of voting - DD doesn't care to vote this year either. I can see her point of view.

What ideology do you find too progressive?

You cite a ton of right wing talking points and misrepresentations (no one takes you seriously when your argument is a strawman), but I think you should have read the article you posted before spouting off about “teaching gender ideology” and from a “news” outlet in Austin, TX owned by Sinclair. But even they were able to sneak in the fact that it’s not teaching gender ideology but respecting all students, including the ones who were being bullied for being gay. So you want gay kids to get bullied? That’s essentially what you said.

And to try to pull some grapes out of your cornucopia of misled: that was an Osseo, MN policy, not a state wide one. Good lord. You are bad at this, “independent.”

This was just one point in response to someone who asked "What ideology do you find too progressive?" And I stand by my post - this is one area that I find too progressive/liberal. But I am also pro-LGBTQ rights -- it's something the progressive/liberal left can't seem to comprehend which is so frustrating -- you can support LGBTQ rights but also disagree with certain specific issues. The all-or-nothing attitude of the left is tiresome. Just as tiresome as the all-or-nothing attitude of the right when it comes to abortion. Same thing.

DP. Well said. This is how I feel, too. So sick of the extremes.

The forgotten middle.
The middle children of the country if you will.

Well said indeed.

Well, Harris acknowledges you with this pick.

DP. No. Walz may be a nice person, but he is not middle-of-the-road/moderate. Please stop pretending otherwise.
