Once this is all done with, there will be no public sympathy or empathy for Israel. Governments can send weapons but they can’t manipulate public opinion ( although a lot has been tried to that end).

I think you’re right. Israel’s reaction is just. too. much. It’s too much. My bias is toward Israel, but it’s hard to sustain. The losses are so disproportionate. I know, I know — proportionate military response does not mean one-to-one dead. But it’s just too much.

So what else would you do?

Limited strikes and negotiate hostage release and next steps via an outside party - Ireland, Norway, the Vatican, whoever.

probably not ireland or norway--too biased.

And the Vatican doing it is offensive.

Emphasis on whoever. Restore the art of diplomacy. At least try.

As tragic as it is, for that one Israeli father, there are 1000 fathers in Gaza holding their kids dead bodies and burying them everyday. Life is a life, it does not matter more because it’s an Israeli life.

Probably to both sides… so I’ll call that a wash! Give it a go. Let’s all be reading articles about the faux pas of the Vatican negotiator rather than enormous civilian death.

As a Jew, I would never in a million years support the Catholic Church negotiating this.

Hey, just don't forget that there were 1400 Israelis slaughtered too.

Art of diplomacy is what the White House is doing now.

Look at the post after this one. Israel already doesn't have the world's support. The current events won't change that.

Herein lies the problem, Israel cannot live without world support or some sort of normalcy of relations with its neighboring countries. No country can live like this, don’t twist my words to “exist”, I mean this not as a way to live.

Current thinking is that with the help of America, Israel can out bomb itself out of situations, but that is a terrible approach. With this approach, you are always a target, they must try diplomacy and building better relations with their neighboring countries.

Hamas has no interest in negotiating next steps. I don’t think you realize what “terrorist organization” means.

Okay? Then make a big show of planning negotiations and inviting them and let them show the world they won’t show. Take some time. Also you imply they *would* negotiate hostages (just not next steps) — that’s great. Start there.

Sure, but if we are counting then there are 6500 Palestinians dead, half of them children.

Yes, but Biden doesn't trust those numbers.

They did that with the Abraham Accords and were, supposedly close to an agreement with Saudi Arabia. Read more.

I’m not the one coming up with genius ideas for diplomacy.
