As tragic as it is, for that one Israeli father, there are 1000 fathers in Gaza holding their kids dead bodies and burying them everyday. Life is a life, it does not matter more because it’s an Israeli life.

Hey, just don't forget that there were 1400 Israelis slaughtered too.

Sure, but if we are counting then there are 6500 Palestinians dead, half of them children.

Certainly many tragedies but no way of actually knowing the true number - Gazan health authorities are likely not trustworthy given they lied about 500 supposedly dying because a hospital was blown up by the IDF and collapsed killing everyone inside... except then it turned out that it was a crashed Hamas rocket that landed in the parking lot outside and did minimal damage to the hospital, let alone collapsing it. In war, the first casualty is the truth.

I think you’re right. Israel’s reaction is just. too. much. It’s too much. My bias is toward Israel, but it’s hard to sustain. The losses are so disproportionate. I know, I know — proportionate military response does not mean one-to-one dead. But it’s just too much.

So what else would you do?

Limited strikes and negotiate hostage release and next steps via an outside party - Ireland, Norway, the Vatican, whoever.

probably not ireland or norway--too biased.

Emphasis on whoever. Restore the art of diplomacy. At least try.

lol, ok keyboard warrior. It’s so easy when you don’t actually have to do anything.

Okay, fellow keyboard warrior? Thanks for sharing your opinion

I’m not the one coming up with genius ideas for diplomacy.

No, no, of course not. I’m sure your contributions in this thousand-page thread have been super. Thumbs up, dude.

Well the hospital bombing seems to be a fuel air bomb Israel release on the hospital. I can see why the number of dead are hard to estimate in Gaza. Israel has collapse building with civilians trapped alive and no way to get out. The IDF has a long history of propaganda and is totally unbelievably.

It doesn't seem that unreasonable for the IDF to ask the UN to go to Hamas to tell Hamas to share its fuel with the people of Gaza, right? Make the ask.

Ireland? Possibly one of the most anti-semitic countries on earth?

Definitely not Ireland. They are deeply antisemitic.

idf footage of air strikes seems to suggest “bunker busters” are being used on suspected tunnels. secondary explosions and absolutely massive black smoke going up — storage area for fuel, rockets/propellant, fertilizer, maybe. gaza is one dense area.

Oh JC, is there anyone out there who’s not an anti-Semitic boogeyman? We can’t have the United Nations involved, we can’t have the Vatican involved, we can’t have Ireland involved. It’s pretty obvious that gridlock and preservation of the status quo is the goal here.

That said, I’m guessing you’d be fine with a nice garden variety Islamophobe to serve as arbiter here, right? I mean, as long as you can define each and every term up for negotiations, right? What a farce.

U.N. data, so I guess I’ll hedge my bets by going with “anti-Semitic” on my “we’re just a fun loving democracy” bingo card.

No, just not a country like Ireland. It's not an "anti-semitic boogeyman", it is a deeply anti-semitic country.

Exactly. And it’s so much easier to lie and spin propaganda when all the reputable journalists are dead.

Could that be why Israel bombed the Associated Press headquarters?

The number of journalists killed by IDF precision rockets in Gaza is astounding. But it makes it so much easier to discredit the reports of civilian deaths. Everyone is lying—everyone except the military that “accidentally” killed dozens of journalists and bombed their headquarters.

The U.S. has brokered past agreements for Gaza to have autonomy but instead of building its economy and civil society institutions, they turned it over to Hamas as a haven for terrorists.

And now the US special forces and forces in the Gulf, at great risk, will have to support Israel taking out Hamas and rescuing hostages. It sounds like the US is greatly encouraging minimizing the loss of Palestinian life which leads to conducting this war in a more delicate and risky way that will no doubt lead to more US and Israeli soldier deaths than if they employed other means. As someone who would like to see the loss of civilian life minimized, I would like to express gratitude for this concern and forbearance. On the other hand, as a military spouse, the risk now rises for Israeli and US soldiers which does not make me happy. But that's how war is conducted, something Palestinian terrorist groups like Hamas declined to do.

The AP reopened their offices in Gaza in 2022.
