Let's retire the idea that you need a certain amount of national or international experience to be president (or VP). What you need is a willingness to learn, the ability to hire/keep experts on various subjects, ability to make decisions after weighing various non-ideal options, the ability to communicate with the population, and most importantly, a genuine concern for citizens.

I haven't seen Demmings in enough circumstances to render an opinion on her. I like what I've seen so far. But, my data points are few.

I think her ranking in the VP-race just went up A LOT. She's stable, she's "law and order " (to contradict the stereotype of the mad-black-woman who is out of control), she's AA, she can certainly speak to the reality of racism from her past and present, etc., etc.

Biden needs to pick the right person FOR THE TIMES. He's smart to wait as long as possible to pick anyone. That gives him time to figure out who is best suited to address the main issues of the nation as we head into the fall. If there was an international flare up, it would make sense to pick someone who has strength in that area. Warren might be the best person if the economy is a flashpoint. If racial issues are the number 1 issue, then picking someone who can be a leader in those issues might be the best choice.

Keeping my eye on Demmings.

My wish list:
A moderate
Governing experience (the last 3 years have convinced me that private sector executive experience does not translate to running a much more complex organization such as the Federal Government)
Younger than Biden (45-65)
Adds votes (or at least does not cost Biden any votes)

While I would love to see a female on the ticket and/or a person of color, the above four criteria are more important

Agree with you 100%.

Agreed! I don’t think we should discount her experience as police chief either. Maybe not what we think of when talking about more traditional executive experience (mayor, governor) but a tough job nonetheless.

Yeah, for sure let’s pair a moderate with the already moderate Joe Biden.

You want someone to add votes? Elizabeth Warren.

NP: I think Warren costs Biden as many votes as she gets him. For whatever reason - good, bad, gag-inducing - there's a lot of people who just don't like her.

If this is legal, he should totally do it. Upset the Dc status quo, that’s what the people want, right? Give the people what they want.

I suspect that at the least Bernie Sanders and Jim Clyburn will get something similar to strikes from the jury pool.

I can't see Clyburn giving his assent for THAT White woman, not when
1) She doesn't bring anyone to the table.
2) She's from a state that if it's in trouble, we're doomed.
3) I suspect there's enough out there from Klobuchar's record to actively repel Black voters.

4). It’s the Hispanic voters who matter

5) the Hispanic voters will support anyone that isn’t trump. They aren’t going to vote for cages because they don’t identify with the VP. There are few leaders in politics that the minority groups (Hispanic, Black, Asian, Indian, etc.) can identify with. But they all hate Trump.

Agreed, I think Warren is at best a net neutral and more likely to be net negative. She has many flaws as a VP candidate. While she is the smartest candidate of the list, that is not sufficient to outweigh her many negatives. She would be better suited to another job, like a cabinet position or a senior staff position if she wasn't going to stay in the Senate (where she is needed). I respect her a lot, and think there are many fantastic opportunities for her, I don't think she's a good VP candidate and I think selecting her would be a mistake.

I really like her but I agree.

Are you kidding? Do you know how many people wanted her at the nom but were afraid she’d get the misogynistic treatment resulting in a Hillary type experience? She’s the one people wanted.

I don't know how many, but I do know it wasn't enough for her even to win her home state.

And far from pulling in progressives, they're the ones tearing her down as much as anyone for not doing enough for Bernie or whatever the ff they're mad at.

I LIKE Warren - and I think she's a terrible choice.

This plus I prefer someone younger given Biden’s age

Not legal. This has been discussed before.
