You guys keep mentioning respecting Phillips but I think he doesn’t deserve that much respect with all the racist drivel the people in his group were spouting as they stood behind him and recorded the video. The kids behaved well overall compared to them.

Probably not now - did you grow up on a base???? Times were different then and YES if you got in to an altercation with crazy people on a field trip you would have been in a huge amount of trouble. I have heard it is different now and snowflake behavior of not taking responsibility for your kid acting like an idiot is accepted.

Grew up on bases in CONUS and OCONUS. Served and deployed to ME. Spouse was company and Bn commander . Kids attended DOD schools CONUS and OCONUS.

Never had a call because of what you describe. Selling or possession of drugs, and firearm at school once.

And I went to high school overseas on a base. Kids behaved themselves in public or they got in serious trouble. You know that it is true. You are faker and liar.

The actions of those kids does not rise to the level of calling a commander. No one assaulted anyone, their were no injuries or arrests.

Now the black and Hispanic service members might try to go down and kick the asses of the black Jews for calling their kids the n word and that certain area could be put off limits to service members and dependents because base wouldn’t want further issues. But otherwise peddle your stank elsewhere.

STOP CALLOMG THOSE BLACK HATERS "JEWS." They are anti-Jews!

They are the same everyday, that group. Hence "turn the other cheek" which the boys failed to do.

So if some antisemite yells a disgusting slur and I don't sit back quietly and take it, it's MY fault?

Possible if it happened OCONUS--but, only because it would have likely involved foreign nationals which is a whole other issue. That said, after having worked in schools OCoNUS for a number of years, I NEVER heard of this happening. And, believe me, had it happened, I would have heard about it. There are no secrets on a military post--worse than a small town. And, certainly, DH would have heard about it, had I not. And, FWIW, he was a commander on many levels.
I guess it could have happened if the school was Conus, but highly unlikely in my experience. There are relatively few high schools on military posts CONUS, in any case.
The only time we got commanders involved in the schools was when parents did not show for conferences. And, this would be after several attempts. Also, the occasional child who had need of services we could not provide overseas.

There is a huge debate in DOD schools presently about sexual assault and bullying among students. There’s no good system of reporting and dealing with such incidents because a company or bn commander has no legal authority to do anything about a dependent. The very most that can happen is a base or post commander bans the dependent from on base activities or stores. Most base command won’t kick a family off base. My neighbor at Bragg had kids doing drugs in the wooded area behind family housing. I called the MPs and took them
Down in the woods and they retrieved the bongs and did a report. I identified the kids. Nothing happened. No command was called.

A 1sgt kid took a firearm to a CONUS school and he was arrested. His father was then arrested for incest and rape of his daughter, the sister. The kids were then placed in foster care and the father found guilty and sentenced to 10
years in Leavenworth.

The dad wasn’t even held pre-trial and lived in housing with his wife.

So again, peddle your hysteria elsewhere.

That is awful. I am not peddling hysteria, I am genuinely shocked that things have gone so far downhill. When I was in high school (overseas), kids who committed crimes or were accused of crimes (and most likely had done them, ha) were sent back to the US to live with relatives. PERIOD. There was no staying. This was in the 80s -90s and some base commanders were stricter than others, for sure. The kids were on flights out very quickly. I remember when I came back to the US to take driver's ed while on home leave one summer, I was shocked by how disrespectful the UMC kids were to the drivers ed instructor. I had never seen kids be that disrespectful to a teacher before, like ever. It was disturbing.

No base command has a leg to stand on if a dependent is accused of a crime and not convicted. Accusations don’t matter, you can’t send a dependent back if they are accused of a crime because they need to stay in country to face trial/charges/ sentencing depending on jurisdiction. It’s way more complicated than some kid shoplifting or fighting and then being frogmarched to a plane and banished from a base.

You were a kid and saw things and drew conclusions from memory. That’s ok, but reality is different.

Thanks.

It's really telling that no one has come on to address this question.

Was their behavior really representing their purported faith that brought them to a rally to speak for the sanctity of life? Why are their parents spending money on a school that has failed to instill Catholic values in them?

Simply by virtue of the fact that they were there defending those who cannot speak for themselves..... the unborn. I know this is hard for you to understand, but that is why they were present.

The social media mob is working overtime in taking these kids down. It is shameful. They are teenagers and still have a lot to learn about the world. I cannot believe that there are adults who condone the actions of social media to cause these kids to be put at risk.

I really hope those who are looking to take legal action are successful. This type of social media shaming is harmful, dangerous, and hateful.

Defending the unborn by excusing rape. Nice.

Do we know that kid ("it's not rape if you enjoy it") and the boys harassing the girls on the street are, in fact, Covington Catholic students? The one is clearly from that area as he is wearing a Bengals sweatshirt.

You know what I saw? After the one kid yells his comment about rape (which was not acceptable at all), the boys around him scolded him... he then retreated into the background.

What did those boys actually say to "scold" him? I'm curious because I can't hear them chastise him.

The kid was obnoxious--but I would like to have heard the whole interaction. It looks like the video skips ahead. But, he is not the kid in question, and that is what the accusations have been about. I would hate to be responsible for what everyone in my class does.

Here's a video where you can watch a longer interaction. The black Hebrews are definitely obnoxious and looking for an argument.

But if you go to the 21:43 mark and watch for the next ten minutes you see some Non-Covington students conducting themselves much differently in their own interaction with this group - though I will point out that the boy who shouted out that rape comment is with this group (see around the 26 mark), which goes to show that an idiot boy can behave himself when properly chaperoned.

I suggest that Covington school officials show this video to their studen for them to reflect on their behavior. And also to their chaperones -because you can clearly see a Covington chaperone in this video who does nothing to get the kids away. Really poor judgment.

The Lincoln Memorial is a huge place. When there are crazy people yelling horrible things you don't engage with them. You move.

Jesus never said go hate on people even if they are hating on you. These kids are from a school that seeks to instill Jesus's teachings in them. Hence the suggestion they turn the other cheek and walk away.

Their chaperones should have moved them all along. A different group of youth came up and told the black Hebrews that they loved them. Then they walked away.

My understanding as a kid was that the local government and the base command basically gave the families the options of facing local prosecution or leaving the country. No one was snuck out of the country, but the kids I knew who got in trouble (not talking about shoplifting or fighting) left really fast. I don't know anyone who stayed. Not having access to base housing was a big deal at the time/location where we were, so it would have been difficult for a family to keep a family member overseas who wasn't allowed to live on base.

it sounds like all of this is very different now. (And I agree that this misbehavior is no where near the level of what it took to get someone sent back. )

Somehow the boys are being held to a higher standard of behavior than all the adults around them.

I still haven’t seen a single video with those boys cursing or using racial slurs.

Phillips used racist language and is being held as the peacemakers.

I lived in DC and saw kids of all colors and religions and socioeconomic tiers act worse than the kids on the video.

I don’t know where all these parents posting on here are when their kids are in public in DC. being awful. Sitting home in dcum probably, typing about crap they are so smug and sure if while their kids are doing what those kids did or worse.

According to DCUM, if people are yelling and calling your classmate/buddy the N word, you should NOT speak up. It’s hard to believe, but I guess liberals are saying you should NOT stand up to racist and hateful remarks unless you’re a liberal.
