US has no good options in Ukraine

Anyone watching Fox? Are they covering the fact that an actual dictator is arresting and beating crowds of people protesting his decision to invade another country? I mean, clearly this is not as bad as Trudeau stopping truckers from blocking international borders....

Rot in his soiled depends.

So you have no actual ideas. You're just going to shitpost. Exactly what I expected.

Putin is betting that the poisonous political polarization unleased by Trump is going to undermine the American-led response. If that happens then our world order will destabilize. These next couple of weeks are exceedingly pivotal.

There are enough adults left in the GOP who get this, especially in the Senate
. They need to stand up and shut down the moronic Trump acolytes in the House.

Really? Who?

God. I had forgotten this. I hate everything about this moment and the Trump apparatus that helped get us here. Not blaming them entirely, but the short memories (I have one too) that allow Trump to set things in motion and then blame others for the consequences are maddening.

Did Ukraine not get the military aid?

Amen. I'd love it if they could just for a while rally around the flag and democracy. We're witnessing history folks. This is going to go down like 9/11, COVID and the great recession but probably bigger than all three if Putin continues down this path. I want to be aligned with my fellow Americans against a common enemy -- hell, that might be the only thing that brings people together (it did during the Cold War).

Why oh why do the Republicans keep choosing the wrong side of history?

It's a death cult. Which option leads to more death? Stoking the fires of insanity on the US right. Therefore, that's the direction they go in. If you use the death cult lens, it all makes sense. It's the only way it does.

Listen to the Minister of Foreign Affairs from Ukraine.

Yes. Obama gave them MREs (Meals Ready to Eat).
Trump gave them lethal weapons.

Listen to someone who's an expert on international banking.

While Russia should be banned from SWIFT they'll just use another currency or even gold to do their banking. The sanctions are weak including the SWIFT sanction. Russia's economy is basically based on oil which we aren't going to touch so not much harm will be done to them financially. After releasing the weak sanctions the stock market went from bright red to green and the price of a barrel of oil went down when it was clear Russian oil wasn't going to be messed with.

Have you been paying attention to the GOP lately? Who are these adults? It's like Romney, Cheney, Kinzinger, and Murkowski, and they are outcasts.

No, it's not just those Members. It's also the likes of McConnell, Portman, Burr, Murkowski, Collins, etc. -- Members who are (domestic politics aside) staunch champions of democracy and get what's at stake here.

Those people have shown absolutely no inclination to stand up to the Trumpists. They have folded every single time in the past, and I expect no better from them now.

+1 Their silence is deafening.

Agree the problem is with our world order destabilizing. It is predicted that all Western democracies would fall together, and right now US is leading the way.

OK. Well, President Biden is our man. I stand by him.

Imagine being in the Ukraine and hearing that.

Imagine being in Ukraine and hearing that Putin is a genius and what he's doing is smart. Imagine being in Ukraine and your children got killed by a Russian bomb, and hearing that Putin is a genius amd what he did is smart. Imagine being in Ukraine, and your children got killed by a Russian bomb, and someone in the U.S. is using that to score political points against Democrats.

Imagine bing in Mexico and hearing perhaps the future US president wants to do the same to Mexico!

I think the point was: imagine being in the Ukraine and hearing that NATO countries will wait a month or so to see if "things work out" and then maybe reconsider stricter sanctions. Not sure what was confusing about that.

What’s so confusing that Trump thinks that Putin is a genius and we should do the same to our southern border, which is Mexico.

Mexico is a failed state. You will see American AirPower unleashed over Mexico within this century.

Quite a bold prediction.

December, 2085 - U.S. helicopter crosses over into Mexican air space in narcotics raid.

No. Just no. Look at history, and apply it to what would happen if we took in a bunch of Ukrainians.

In 1959 the people of Cuba overthrew the fascist Batista regime. Tens of thousands of Cuban elites and capitalist kleptocrats fled Cuba, most going to south Florida. Their descendants are STILL voting republican today. They are responsible for Florida still being a red state. They grew up their whole lives being brainwashed about how JFK and Democrats let Castro take over the country and caused their parents of grandparents to flee for their lives. And they’re still holding a grudge and keeping republicans in power over that.

Now extrapolate that to potentially millions of Ukrainian refugees coming here. They would settle here, have children, and brainwash them about how President Biden and Democrats let Russians take their country from them. Those kids would end up just like the successive generations of Cubans who are hard-core GOP’rs. And there would be far more of them, and they would be highly politically motivated to continue to punish Dems in America. This will affect the Democrats for generations if we take in a bunch of Ukrainians who wouldn’t fight for their own country when Russia attacked them.

We cannot admit Ukrainian refugees. It would be an unmitigated political disaster within 20 years.

Oh are we running political tests on refugees now? Despicable.

- Democrat

What? Are you living in a fantasy? Of course we are. Do you think it's for nothing that refugee candidates are being asked about their past membership in political parties and current social media handles? Yes we are running political tests, Polly.

We have two political parties from what I recollect and voting Republican, which in your opionion constitutes a failure of the "refugee political test" is still legal Your verbal diarrhea here clearly states that your fear is that Ukranian refugees may be inclined to vote against Democrats.
