Ignorant? Nothing i said was ignorant. You're welcome to send all the money you want to candidates of your choosing in every state and pay for ads, etc. My point was that, unless you're a Georgia resident, you don't get a "say," as in a vote there. |
These Senate races are now national affairs. Money floods in from all over to influence the vote and the all these senators are in your business in every state from your daughter's reproductive decisions, to trying to overture presidential election results to many other issues. |
PP here. I get that. I'm referring to an actual vote in an election by the registered voters of a given state.. |
This thread and this whole forum would be really boring if we were only commenting on the people we can actually vote for. |
Yes, it would be boring. But in this instance, the point being made is that each state elects 2 senators. The registered voters in each state are the only ones who get a "say" or vote, whether others like those elected or not. |
The voters are influenced by the money. |
It would be great if the GOP would agree to get money out of politics; alas they do not. |
Nope. Not always. Clinton outraised Trump 2 to 1 and we know how that ended. https://www.politico.com/story/2016/12/trump-clinton-campaign-fundraising-totals-232400 And, Sara Gideon outspent Susan Collins by about 2 to 1. And Collins won by 9 points. https://www.thecentersquare.com/maine/maines-collins-gideon-race-spending-tops-185-million/article_d8ba75d8-2354-11eb-a5ce-4b5b66009f09.html Voters don't take kindly to most of a candidate's money coming from outside the state (like Stacy Abrams). |
+1 |
That doesn't mean that voters aren't influenced by money. Maybe Collins would have won by 11 points if Sara didn't spend money, for example. And frankly, if someone is watching an ad on tv, they most likely would have no idea if outside money paid for it or not. |
UGH such a weird dumb conclusion. it’s not that voters don’t like that outside money paid for things. It just means that a candidate’s fundraising is not really tied to how popular they are in their state. I of course agree money ain’t everything in a race at all…but the outside money doesn’t CAUSE the issue. |
