It seems like it's time for a lawsuit. There must be an ACLU-type organization who would want to take this on. |
I don’t think DPR has many deals like this — a few with universities and this one.
And this one came to DPR pre-packaged by Evans. So maybe it’s not that strange that they have no skills or process to rethink or renegotiate at renewal time. |
Exactly. In fact, DPR used to have a lot more but they've mostly been working to get out of them because they end up not being advantageous to the city. A Maret talking point has been that this is a "standard" deal when no such thing exists. |
Has the DC auditor weighed in on this? |
You'd like to think that all the government levers in place to deal with a situation like this would have been pulled by about now. I sense that most just want this to go away. It's up to people who believe this contract was bogus to keep up making noise. |
This is true - his very cavalier wording (I'm fairly certain about this, I was watching at the time) was "internal conversations" lead the decision making process. |
Oh, please. No one believes this. Hardy parents have a very compelling argument to make here, but you put yourself on a level with the "white savior" Maret parents when you spout this nonsense. |
Holy crap - do you know how committed, mission oriented and hard working BGCGW people are? Have you gone to any of the DC based rec center that are gathering places for kids to have a safe place to go after school and are teeming with volunteers because they understand that there are thousands of kids out there being influenced to make bad choices all day long? There are a lot of people out there focused and working on access & equity issues that don't have a white savior complex. You're gross and offensive because you believe that no one believes that kids shouldn't be stuck in a building after a day in school. |
93 pages of postings and still going strong. Impressive activity but to what end? |
Wow. You're so incredibly cynical. If you hung out at Jelleff after school during the hours that Maret controls the field you'd understand. And the white savior complex was clearly on display yesterday by Maret witnesses. They were gross. |
So what? Is Donald Trump trolling this topic? |
It's pretty clear that the decision on Jelleff came from the very top - aka The Mayor's office. This is why Delano was so evasive - he had "internal conversations" with his boss (Muriel) before coming to a decision. Bowser has a lot of campaign contributors at Maret. In addition, a lot of wealthy African-American families go to Maret as it's one of the more diverse and supposedly "progressive" independent schools in the DC area. This is Bowser's social circle calling in a favor at the expense of poor black kids who would utilize Jelleff through the BGC or Hardy athletics. This is all about the African-American elites of DC putting their foot down on the necks of poorer African-Americans who are in DC Public/Charter Schools. That's the subtext of the entire fight but no one is willing to discuss. This has been a recurring battle in DC for generations. |
Oh my God. You again. This ends up with a lawsuit, that's where. |
What makes this so interesting is that the private school involved prides itself on being a bastion of liberals and democrats who cut their teeth and made their millions under Clinton and Obama. So the that fact that Maret is being called out on their elitism and white savior behavior is something they cannot abide. It's really interesting to watch them twisting themselves into pretzels on this. Maret should have cut bait when this started realizing they were in the wrong. Instead they have chosen this hill to die on. Sooner or later this situation with make it's way into a SNL weekend update bit and then their rep will be permanently affected. Wrong hill, Maret. |
This is exactly it. Excellent summary. |
