Yeah... so, I know this may seem controversial but I'm not going to follow an 08 soccer team's Instagram page unless it's my 08. |
Arlington certainly belongs on the list. Following a 08 team in social media is weird. |
SYC belongs on that list too. Of course it depends on how long list you have, but they should be in tier two with Loudoun and Arlington. |
SYC dad is giving pipeline dad some competition |
SYC does not belong on the list. This isn't 2019, being the King of CCL no longer matters. |
| Please, Arlington 08 Dad pimping out their Instagram is king of them all lol |
|
SYC lost to Loudoun 2-1
SYC tied Baltimore Celtic Shamrock 0-0 (which is now essentially the B team after the Union/Celtic merger.) Loudoun in turn beat Celtic/Union 4-1 as well as beating SYC in March 2-1. Loudoun has now lost to VDA 3-1 and Richmond United 4-0 SYC no longer belongs on the list. |
Did rosters change? Did 08s go from 9v9 to 11v11? |
Some kids leave, B team players get added to the 11v11 roster. Other teams, like VDA etc form or get stronger at ECNL or GA levels. U12 success does not carry over to U13 success especially when a club like SYC is no longer in a top league. CCL teams are now B teams or those that are still A teams have lost players to ECNL or GA. SYC is now in the second bracket at WAGS. They will no longer face the top teams as regularly as they once did. They are now the top of the second tier and will bleed talent over the coming two years. |
This Spring was very different. Probably less player movement than normal at U13. Clubs with natural mergers like VDA/Richmond/Baltimore probably improved more than some other clubs. Arlington, Loudoun, and McLean probably kept their group together and picked up a few more. FCV and Metro and Bryc rely on lots of player movement to get better at U13, so those teams are probably not as good as they would be in most years. SYC didn’t lose a lot of kids. They are still good. |
Sure, they are still good but top teams did in fact get better and SYC didn't get better at all. They are also playing against much softer competition and any struggle there and their rankings will plummet. Frankly, they have to win WAGS and even if they do does anyone care about the winner of the second bracket? They couldn't make the top bracket at WAGS in a very down year so they likely will not make the top bracket at Jeff Cup. They will simply never be able to play any top level teams with enough regularity to demonstrate success. They are now an afterthought. |
No, they are not an afterthought lol |
Does Richmond United care about SYC? McLean ECNL, Loudoun ECNL, Arlington GA, VDA? No, because they will never play them again. Meanwhile, SYC will get to play Coppermine and Pipeline's B team. By this spring, yes, they will be an afterthought and Pipeline Dad will be replaced by SYC Dad banging the "hey look at me drum".
At best SYC has two years of relevance, including this year before kids start to showcase. ECNL teams generally stop going to Jeff Cup in favor of their own showcases by U15. And by the time kids start to truly showcase nobody will care about SYC being ranked 5th in VA if they still are by then. Kids will have left long before then looking for clubs with a pathway. |
| ^parent that has been through this all before multiple times...some of what you say is true for sure, but you don’t have to be so smug and condescending when saying it |
Could be true. But are we arguing about who will be good 2 years from now or who is good today? Loudoun dad wants you to believe different, but the gap after the top 2 is the only gap there is today and there are likely a few afterthought clubs that can play with anyone today. Even your precious LS. |
