Isn't that your mom screaming down the stairs that your hot pockets are ready? You'd better go get em while their hot 🔥 |
What you dont understand is the top colleges have 100s of players to choose from for every position. Nobody is going out of their way to pick a player thats playing down a grade. Nobody is that good that they're standing out that way. If they were they'd be playing up on the team thats their grade. |
| But not too hot, those things will scorch the inside of your mouth off!! |
Nah Top Colleges have a handful of players they're considering for their small Freshman incoming class The Freshman class is usually less than 10 players You think they are picking from everyone eligible. They're picking from the few they want. Most if not all of who contacted them directly |
If I was a coach I'd inta-pass on players choosing to play down. 100% red flag that parents want to work the system and will likely be a pain in the ass. Conversely if an Aug birthday asked to play on a team thats their grade Id allow + 100% respect that choice. |
Coaches don't just let you play up because you ask nicely |
If you're playing club soccer according to the league age cutoff, how can it be playing down by choice? How are you working the system? Make that make sense |
When recruiters go to watch a game they want all players to be a specific graduation year. This is the primary benefit for recruiters when it comes to SY. Trudging down to some oddball field to watch an obbball player is not what recruiters want to do. Before you get your panties in a wad leagues schedule the most recruitable teams in the best times and fields during events. Everyone else gets what they get. Are you starting to catch the hint? Playing down a grade will be a constant fight of going against the grain. Just bite the bullet early and play on a correct grade team. |
Don't forget when the rest of the team is in 8th grade if you're playing down a grade your kid will be in 9th grade and playing HS soccer for 3 months during the season. If I was a club coach I'd pass on a player like this since they're not going to be with the team for 1/3 (if you count breaks) of the season. |
Not everyone plays HS and I bet if a player were on a top team, they'd keep playing club, with the higher exposure, quality. Just because you're eligible for HS, doesn't mean you'll play. Happened all the time in BY, especially with kids who went to school early. |
| I feel like there's 5 points that get rolled out every time this issues comes up. It's a legit issue for current players, but not necessarily over college recruiting. It's more about playing with friends for years. So ironic, given the push to play with grade, so you can play with friends. |
Name me the colleges who recruit from HS soccer |
I see the opposite. HS coaches who go to smaller showcases to try to see club players who they then try to convince to play HS. |
|
So, now it starts to get real.
Our club is off of training now until beginning of January but did send out communication that the teams will train the first two weeks of January with their new "age group" teams. Said this will also be an evaluation period for RL players as well as "non-club" members. Hmmm... |
Many in our area are holding some ID sessions for the new age groups. Clubs stressing show up for the age, regardless of any other factors, like grade, while promising individual decisions will be made later, of course. |
