Carrie seems like she is very wealthy now and she did not make much money in her lifetime nor was she born rich. I imagine with the sales of her books, she probably amassed what, a net worth of a couple hundred thousand dollars?

I imagine Big funded her lifestyle with the beautiful penthouse and the upgrades to her apartment.

Miranda was in big law and a partner for a few years so I imagine she is worth 5mil. Steve owned a bar, which I’m sure was pretty successful so I’d say his net worth is somewhere in the 2-5 mil.

Charlotte recieved a million dollars from her divorce and her apartment. Harry is a partner at a law firm so he brings in 2-3 mil a year. I’d imagine their net worth is in the 15 mil or so. They do well but not enough to be on the board at the Met. Lol

Of course Carrie is wealthy because of Big. She was a moderately successful writer but she would not have some lavish lifestyle if she were single.

Miranda and Steve bought that Brooklyn brownstone that they renovated in the early 2000s. If they sold it they would have made a ton of money. It looks like they traded up-- the house doesn't look like the same layout as their old one. Miranda would be very wealthy as a law partner. I can't imagine Steve's bar did great during the pandemic but they glossed over that. It would have been interesting to explore that.

As a divorce lawyer for the wealthy I'm sure Harry is loaded, but you're right that Charlotte being on the board of the Met is a stretch. There are plenty of small art museums in New York that would have been more realistic.

I want to know why Lisa (the new cast member) is so rich. The apartment they filmed in is currently for sale by Sothebys for $23m. And that art collection…

Everyone on this show became rich through their husbands except Miranda.

I think it’s obvious LTW’s husband has made a crazy amount of money in NYC. Probably finance.

Charlotte's arc felt a little white savior-y. She has no black friends but she's able to pull her new black friend's chestnuts out of the fire with her mother-in-law and suddenly she's "in" with the sisters? Uhhh...

And if Carrie is devastated by the loss of Big, it's hard to tell.

Miranda's prof opening up to her about IVF and maybe not wanting a child at all? They've known each other what? Weeks?

I happen to be simultaneously binging Insecure and while it's not perfect, holy cow, the quality differences are so dang stark.

Damned if we do, and damned if we don’t. Where is the line between being actively anti-racist and being a white savior? Tired of the absurdity of it all. If anything, this show is highlighting what a f’d up place white women are trapped in right now. I know, boo hoo. But dang. Our mere existence is offensive to people.

Boo-frigging boo!

LTW’s character is loosely based on Crystal McCrary McGuire, married to Ray McGuire who is the former vice chair of Citi who recently ran for mayor. Super paid.

Why is the Carolinas interesting?

Not the PP to whom you’re replying but the family money from the Carolinas was made off the backs and from the expertise of the enslaved. Without the enslaved there would have been zero rice and zero rice money.

Anyone can have a family accountant. I’d assume it’s not old money since she didn’t seem to understand how much that art was worth in the house.

You can be wealthy and not appreciate the value of the works of particular modern artists, especially if you have a bias toward the classics (which you might if you were a classical pianist).

The Wexley’s are based on the McGuires. https://pagesix.com/2021/12/09/new-satc-character-is-based-on-ray-mcguires-wife-crystal/amp/ He made his millions in finance. If the Wexley’s came from actual wealth, I doubt the MIL would be scandalized by the amount of money LTW spent on art.

Why then would the mil have access to info about her dil's spending habits? Old money is frequently scandalized by new money expenditures.

I think SJP finally came out with a statement on the Chris Noth accusations.
