It took a few minutes to find out what was going on. It wasn’t a scheduled shooting. How are they supposed to know what to tell you faster than you panic? Duck & cover & wait for instructions like every school kid in America has been trained to do. As soon as they knew, they told people that the incident was outside so stay inside the stadium. Then when they knew there was no threat, they sent people home through exits that did not interfere with the police investigation.

No one knew what was going on, until a fan was shot. Many left after the 6th inning, because the Nats were losing by three points. In the interim, there was a drive by. Nice.

Workers at the gate were not equipped to handle the situation, nor was any one there. If you watched the news coverage, it was NOT 5-10 minutes, but much more.

Why are you defending this crap?

Capitol with 295 behind you and you’re looking at 395, Nats Park is on the east side of S Capitol in SE and the other side of the street which is on the west side is SW. I parked a a Nats game this week at a parking lot located at 1323 S Capitol St, SW via Park Mobile which is by the corner of S Capitol and N (there is a liquor store right there on the corner). All the buildings from N to mid block of S. Capitol were boarded up with notice of a hearing posted on the doors, same thing with the first block of N SW.

Go down there. On that side of S Capitol, which is the SW quadrant. Report back here what you see. Super sad.

Did you not notice all the new condo buildings, office buildings, restaurants, parks, etc. in the neighborhood. The whole area south of 295 from the Navy Yard to the Waterfront is being redeveloped. There are no derelict blocks there, only already developed blocks and to be developed blocks.

It was random that the shooting happened where it did. It had nothing to do with the neighborhood. Just happened they were driving on South Capitol when people in one car shot at people in another car for whatever idiotic reason. They weren’t from the neighborhood and may not even be DC residents.

PP is talking about the west side of S Capitol Street and the neighborhood behind it, not the east side of S Capitol which has the Nats Park, the HT, the metro, fun bars/ restaurants and apartment buildings like The Salt Line, etc. No. the east side of S Capitol has several housing projects with very high crime of shootings, drugs and prostitution. Educate yourself. It may be unpleasant to admit, acknowledge and see and to have to face the juxtaposition of one side of the street to the other, but it’s reality. These are facts. Seriously, get your head out of the sand.

DC recently sued DCHA over the drug, prostitution and firearm crime problems right there on those streets, and that the housing authority had failed to abate the problems. Think a shiny, new big building is the answer? This is a thread about the Nats game shooting that occurred right there on S Capitol. And you’re hyper focused on whether a few empty buildings are abandoned vs boarded up vs being redeveloped? How does that prevent another shooting, when in all likelihood the people involved live or are connected to the neighborhood/streets behind the shiny building?

I didn't realize they finally developed a proposal to develop the NW corner of M and S Capitol. Thank God. Hopefully they won't replace the 7-11, which is a magnet for the dregs of the neighborhood.

Oh man where will I get my jools and wings to drop all over the sidewalk for dogs to choke on? I will miss being accosted on the way out by homeless folks. How terrible that gentrifiers will once again ruin the culture of a thriving corner market.
