Ban Guns!!!
|
Sure! Why not? Screw the Constitution!!!! |
I didn't realize they finally developed a proposal to develop the NW corner of M and S Capitol. Thank God. Hopefully they won't replace the 7-11, which is a magnet for the dregs of the neighborhood. |
Don’t miss the forest for the trees. Go drive down there, or are you too scared to see it for yourself? |
I was just down there on July 4. What are you yammering about? |
Yes. I’m sure every firearm involved was (1) lawfully purchased; (2) lawfully registered; (3) lawfully carried with a duly issued permit; and (4) lawfully possessed by a person not prohibited from firearms. Because if any of those things weren’t true, the firearms in question were already “banned.” |
+1 YES! Other PP here. There is no excuse for the workers to have not been trained at all, and to basically not GAF, and make it so obvious they just don't GAF. I have been to concerts at Nats Stadium, with a line well AROUND the building, with the ticket takers allowing no more in than ONE at a time, while the concert ($$$$) starts. Zero. Effs. Given. About the fans. There needs to be better training, these people aren't doing fans/customers any favors. |

I parked in that lot for Friday’s game for the first (and last) time. To exit you can’t get back on S Capitol but go down an alley and then are forced to take a left on N because it’s one way. There were two men passed out, laying in the alley that we checked to make sure were breathing and called 911. We drove by a huge fight further down N and what looked like 2 drug deals down Half street.
There are boarded up row houses there with trash all over the place. So it sounds like they’re going to tear them down and build townhomes and apartments there. Well, you aren’t displacing people because what they’re tearing down is vacant. The same people dealing drugs, overdosing, shooting people still will be living there. Right behind this block that is getting the development is James Creek, a section 8 housing development run by the DV Housing Authority for extremely low income levels (as defined by HUD). Want to fix crime? Building expensive, fancy townhomes adjacent to James Creek isn’t waving a magic wand and poof problem solved. And there is no way in he!! I would ever live there. Ever. |
Great idea! It worked so well for booze during prohibition! And it’s working so well for recreational drugs now! Banning guns is definitely the solution, based on the proven track record of other banned substances! It’ll be wayyyyyyyyyyy easier to get a gun after they’re banned. So please, ban them! I’ve always wanted a machinegun! |
July 4th eh? Wow, quite the urbanite you are! |
OMG, just stop. The current property is boarded up because a big, shiny new building is proposed for the site: https://dc.urbanturf.com/articles/blog/more-details-and-maybe-livework-units-for-proposed-south-capitol-street-dev/17117 |
It took a few minutes to find out what was going on. It wasn’t a scheduled shooting. How are they supposed to know what to tell you faster than you panic? Duck & cover & wait for instructions like every school kid in America has been trained to do. As soon as they knew, they told people that the incident was outside so stay inside the stadium. Then when they knew there was no threat, they sent people home through exits that did not interfere with the police investigation. |
And what’s a big shiny new building going to do about the crime problems on that block, on N, on Half, etc? That’s not how this works, that’s not how any of this works. DC recently sued DCHA over the drug, prostitution and firearm crime problems right there on those streets, and that the housing authority had failed to abate the problems. Think a shiny, new big building is the answer? This is a thread about the Nats game shooting that occurred right there on S Capitol. And you’re hyper focused on whether a few empty buildings are abandoned vs boarded up vs being redeveloped? How does that prevent another shooting, when in all likelihood the people involved live or are connected to the neighborhood/streets behind the shiny building? Maybe you’re just being purposefully dense, but honestly you’re part of the bigger problem. Seriously. |

The Constitution says a well-organized militia has the right to bear arms. It doesn't say that everyone is entitled to his own 9mm semiautomatic. These weapons didn't even exist then, and if they did, I am certain the founding fathers would not have enshrined ownership of such as an inalienable right above all others in the Constitution. I'd be for banning all handguns, and allowing private citizens to possess only shotguns. Professionals understand that shotguns are better than handguns for home protection anyway. And you'd have the ability to hunt your dinner. Done. No further discussion required. |
