Any word on the new NVSL rules for the summer?

It will be hard to get people to wear masks for meets when they aren’t wearing them to swim and socialize for fun.

It won’t be hard. No mask, you leave. Easy.

And it will be harder to get volunteers if they can watch outside the fence or in a designated spectator section without having to wear a mask.

Most pools require a certain number of volunteer hours.

The pools (clubs) or the swim team? Our swim team requires volunteer hours.

A lot don’t track them. Ours doesn’t

NVSL what are you doing?

Just follow the local rules! No masks outside.

I mean saying the team can require volunteer hours and thus force people to officiate on deck wearing a mask is missing the point. The NVSL's mask mandate is ignoring science about 1) outdoor transmission; 2) vaccinated people; 3)lack of susceptibility of kids. Its making a rule where they have zero knowledge or expertise. Our team requires volunteer hours- although I don't think they are really tracking them. But those volunteer hours can be fulfilled by bringing bags of ice, donating baked goods, doing pep rally stuff, working the snack bar- etc. As well as doing things on deck like stroke and turn and timing. Its already hard to get stroke and turn judges b/c they also have to go to training. Silly rules like this about masks just shrink their availability even more.

It seems trivial but it’s not—I’m not going to volunteer to stand on deck in the sweltering heat all day if I have to wear a mask—I’m fully vaccinated and I’m DONE with that.

I’m so jealous. Our team is in CSL and we are not allowed spectators at practices or meets, even if masked or vaccinated. We also have to do a daily symptom checker for all practices and events and kids have to mask at entry and exit. I was so disappointed when I got the email. I thought they would allow spectators once the governor lifted all capacity restrictions.

Sounds like the people that run the swim leagues are living under rocks!

Yes. I'm literally talking to these people on OUR team without masks, kids without masks being coached by coaches without a mask.
