This is how they did it in 2019 for Seneca Valley: Resolved, That the boundary changes be implemented beginning with Grades 9 and 10 students in September 2020, and that Grades 11 and 12 students remain in their current high school of attendance for the 2020–2021 school year; and be it further Resolved, That the implementation continue with Grades 9 through 11 students in the 2021–2022 school year, followed by full implementation of Grades 9 through 12 students in the 2022–2023 school year; https://gis.mcpsmd.org/boundarystudypdfs/SVHS_BOEResolution.pdf But in 2025 there will be a different superintendent and a different board, so it's really an unknown. |
Crown is going to solve overcrowding of northwest as well. So could be a possibility |
What does that mean? There are several schools with boundaries that include both sides of 270: WJ, RM, Gaithersburg, Seneca Valley, and Clarksburg. |
Wootton is a strange one. The school is on the far edge of its boundary. There is also this island... Most of its students live closer to other HS. No idea why they just don't redraw the boundaries to favor students who live near the school instead of all that unnecessary busing. |
That’s because many high schools there are too close to each other. |
At the facilities and boundaries hearing yesterday, Seth Adams said the Crown boundary study would likely begin 2 years before the school opens, and Rebecca Smondrowski suggested that they name the school's principal earlier than usual too due to the scope of the project. |
Not really. The boundaries are suboptimal so we end bussing kids from far away to Wooton which is in the very far far corner of a long narrow boundary. |
Maybe, but Travillah is way closer to QO than Wootton. That's why Wootton will likely change dramatically once Crown opens. And no, Rio won't be very happy if the kids trash the place after school. it's a bad assumption to say the kids will have money to spend if they're pulling from Gaithersburg HS FARMS (who, by definition, don't have a ton of disposable income to waste). Rio is already getting overcrowded, so imagine what it will be like with a hundred HS kids hanging out after school! |
If travillah, stonemill, or lakewood are taken out, Wootton will probably have much worse performance |
The businesses will benefit from the lunch traffic if it has open lunch. |
Guessing you don't hang at Rio much? I live nearby and I only eat at Rio once-in-a-while - it's pretty expensive. Sure, teachers or families might drop in every once-in-a-while. That will make the after-school parking situation even worse than it is now. If the kid has $20 or $30 to burn on a "cheap" lunch, that's a possibility. Dave and Busters might get a boost - the same way White Flint Mall got a "boost" by attracting fights. If vandalism and theft increases in the communities around Rio, I'm sure that all those families paying half-to-three-quarters of a mil for their townhouses will be overjoyed and thank the board profusely. Sure, you can mess with the schools parents paying extra for their kids education to live in a top notch school district - just expect to have a new board voted in once they're pissed. You tell a parent "yeah, I know you worked hard to pay 3/4 of a mill for your brand-new townhouse but we're turning it into MS-13 High to promote social justice and give your kid a real-world Life lesson" - see how that works out. Same goes with drawing up boundaries that don't make sense or messing with Magnet programs just so, as a hypothetical example, a board member or MCPS admin can do a solid for 'friends and family'. It's corruption and everyone knows it. These are the things MCPS never cares about - they're too busy working their own personal agendas. No matter how many 'for-show' boundary studies are conducted, the Crown boundary map will speak for itself. Crown HS will be a premier example of how MCPS rolls and all eyes are on it. |
Lots of RM kids are Iat RTC and other local shops at lunch...despite the fact that I find it pricey. I assume they are focused more on a soda and fries or ice cream then an adult choice. Georgetown Sq is the same with WJ kids. |
You can take your dystopian glasses off now and then. |
My kid goes to RM. They go out to lunch maybe once a week. Some of the restaurants have an RM lunch special, like $6, not fries and soda or ice cream. More like Indian or chicken or potbelly sandwiches. When schools were VL, I know some of those restaurants missed the kids' patronage. I like that they get some outdoor time when walking to/from the eatery. Some of the restaurants in Rio might do the same thing. |
Somehow it's always about property values. Oh, and parking. Parking and property values. |
