Sending anyone from QO to Wootton is a stretch (it's too far away - unless someone is jerrymandering the boundaries). Travilah may go from Wootton to Crown, or go from Wootton to QO with some QO to Crown. As far as pulling kids from across East 270 West to Crown, good luck with that. I'm also waiting to see what happens if Rio gets inundated with after-school kids looking for fun. That will really change the area dynamic. Not sure how happy the management at Rio will be. Now, if MCPS was creative, they'd move all Wootton kids into Crown; refurbish Wootton (which is really old and needs a facelift), then redraw - but I don't think they're that creative.
Travillah is way too far from crown. Stone mill and Dufief are much closer
Maybe, but Travillah is way closer to QO than Wootton. That's why Wootton will likely change dramatically once Crown opens. And no, Rio won't be very happy if the kids trash the place after school. it's a bad assumption to say the kids will have money to spend if they're pulling from Gaithersburg HS FARMS (who, by definition, don't have a ton of disposable income to waste). Rio is already getting overcrowded, so imagine what it will be like with a hundred HS kids hanging out after school!
The businesses will benefit from the lunch traffic if it has open lunch.
Guessing you don't hang at Rio much? I live nearby and I only eat at Rio once-in-a-while - it's pretty expensive. Sure, teachers or families might drop in every once-in-a-while. That will make the after-school parking situation even worse than it is now. If the kid has $20 or $30 to burn on a "cheap" lunch, that's a possibility. Dave and Busters might get a boost - the same way White Flint Mall got a "boost" by attracting fights. If vandalism and theft increases in the communities around Rio, I'm sure that all those families paying half-to-three-quarters of a mil for their townhouses will be overjoyed and thank the board profusely. Sure, you can mess with the schools parents paying extra for their kids education to live in a top notch school district - just expect to have a new board voted in once they're pissed. You tell a parent "yeah, I know you worked hard to pay 3/4 of a mill for your brand-new townhouse but we're turning it into MS-13 High to promote social justice and give your kid a real-world Life lesson" - see how that works out. Same goes with drawing up boundaries that don't make sense or messing with Magnet programs just so, as a hypothetical example, a board member or MCPS admin can do a solid for 'friends and family'. It's corruption and everyone knows it. These are the things MCPS never cares about - they're too busy working their own personal agendas. No matter how many 'for-show' boundary studies are conducted, the Crown boundary map will speak for itself. Crown HS will be a premier example of how MCPS rolls and all eyes are on it.
