Hoping it's not RIP Swami.
I don't know how Swami feels and neither do you. I'm the one posting about the downturn the thread was going to take once the oh so earnest Correctness Crowd showed up. The posts surrounding the name change have an unappealing tone that isn't warranted in all situations of supposed offensiveness. I'm sure the person was just trying to be "helpful" in educating us all. |
| I think swami will be back. She's not easily offended. She just doesn't have a lot of time and this year hasn't been a big one for swamiing on DCUM since nobody really cares about the lottery while all the schools are closed. |
| Swami has done this a few years in a row now. Starts a thread and only weighs in here or there (both before and after wait lists). Totally fine ... people are busy and swami is not actually a swami so its not like you're missing out on special wisdom. |
+1 Thank you. |
It says it's only a 15 minute drive from home when I check Waze with the "Go Later" feature to account for traffic. I know a lot of traffic is off the roads though because of COVID (work from home, virtual learning)...is it really bad traffic in normal times? Also my husband and I are both teachers so we are off for all school holidays and also have flexibility leaving if she gets sick. |
Yes, it is very bad in normal times. |
Ha - yes, you need to double the commute time right now to get a sense of what it will be post pandemic. Or triple. We're flying across the city in the morning these days. |
That said I (not swami) predict you'll match at CMI and everything below that doesn't matter. |
| Swami??? |
| Swami was so wrong with my list a few years ago. |
| What really strikes me about this year is the absence of Langley boosters. What up Bloomingdale/Eckington? Are you all totally satisfied now? |
tbh there is just an absence of any posts about lottery, when every other year there are about 100. this has to mean something. people just don't give a crap this year. |
I give a crap! And ranked Langley for my PK4 kid (we are OOB, not sure we have a shot). I actually avoided lottery threads last year because I was nervous about results before, and too disappointed after to read about all the people who got into one of their choice schools. I would love if this thread actually returned to the subject of the lottery as I'm starting to get anxious about results next week and could use some idle chit chat on the matter to help me stay sane. (I actually posted my list upthread and was one of the people who got a Swami response, but that was before the thread devolved into whatever this is) |
I do think you have a chance at Langley, it's much easier for PK4. But it you are the PP currently at Miner, I am curious why you think Langley is better in a way that justifies the hell that is Dave Thomas Circle. |
Ooooh, would you all like some Langley boosting? Well, here I am. You want to make sure your kid gets to play on a rainy day? We don't have one gym, we've got two! You want your kid to stop screaming their head off?! Well, no guarantees but conscious discipline is amazing and has really moved us in the right direction. Our teachers -- they are truly dedicated and terrific!! The garden, it's magically delicious! We've got all your fieldtrips right here. The community is so close and caring. You'll love it! I can't speak for others, but I have been preoccupied with the DCPS twitter accounts to try to decipher what guidance will be in place for next year, but if you want some boosting I'm here for you
And to the poster hoping to get in at PK4, I'm sure you will as class size goes up. See you in the garden dig pit
