For PK4:
Ross
Garrison (IB)
Stevens Early Learning
Seaton

This was the first time we played the lottery - we don’t have a lot of knowledge on this, but do understand that Ross is almost impossible out of boundary, and Garrison/Seaton also very competitive. Our child has no siblings.

I am not Swami, but I am sincerely interested to see how Ross plays out. They have not taken any OOB PK kids for what 10 years now? Curious the impact the pandemic has there.

Oyster Adams
Bancroft
LAMB
LAMB SD
DC Bilingual
Stokes Spanish (obv)
MV8
MV P St
Shepherd
Eaton
Powell

Spanish would be first priority, but maybe full time in person would trump even a good Spanish option this year. Threw the Deal feeders in case this year is that crazy, and not sure if we’d take the Powell spot.

Not swami but I don't think it's possible to get into Oyster or Bancroft for K OOB, Spanish dominant or not. Way too many IB kids as it is.

It would be really thoughtful if the name for this thread was not lottery ‘Swami’ though. I don’t think people would say lottery Priest or lottery Rabbit or lottery Imam.

A Swami is a Hindu monk. He is also a religious leader of congregations. Like priest, rabbi, Imam. The terms for Hindu figures like Swami and Guru have been ridiculed into caricatures. As something exotic, not ‘real’, as snake oil peddlers, as funny people in weird clothes and that recite strange ‘spells’, Fortune Tellers, etc.

I know this is DCUM and I will get mostly a bunch of snarky replies back but to those of you that are trying your best not to go around making fun of people based on their religion, I hope you will consider evolving past this and into a different, less ridiculing, name.

Thank you.

I love Swami (the person and what she does here) and I appreciate the thoughtful way in which you brought this up. I wouldn't be opposed to an evolution/change of nomenclature, though I suppose this is Swami's choice. I hope everybody stays nice to Swami though because I love this game and every year this is one of the least mean/most fun threads on this forum.

I agree.

+1. I think Swami is great but you make a good point.

Agree. Great fun; needs a new title.

I think lottery Rabbit is a great name.

+1 on Lottery Rabbit. It's great for our beloved OP. And would make a cool band name too.

PK 3, listed IT and SWS with zero expectations of getting in to either with no sibling preference.

Thank you for this inane virtue signaling and shaming. I was worried that I might make it through the morning without being reminded of why our current cultural moment is so detestable.

Please start a different thread if you want to complain about swami’s name...

Are Hindus offended by this thread? Don't know but I do know that virtue signaling however earnest is going to kill the fun of an entertaining thread.

+1

I highly doubt a single Hindu has posted here.

Seriously. I really hate this cultural moment. Really, really hate it.

My favorite part is when the virtue signaler offers an alternative choice such as you do with a small child then declares it "cool." It usually is anything other than cool. It's condescending.

I'd really support this actually. Like we shouldn't casually use "guru". You're right and brave for raising it!
I'm not saying the original person meant to cause offence and I didn't see it at first. BUT it is time we all recognised these things and take responsibility for self educating and opening our eyes

PK4 - we already have a spot at another Charter we like, but just testing to see how we do. West in case DCPS schools are back in person in the fall and our charter isn't.
