Lists are in-- Swami is ready!

Just chiming in to say that swami you predicted last year we’d get off the MV Calle Ocho waitlist by the end of summer and that’s exactly what happened! We haven’t seen the inside of a classroom yet of course but that’s another story. Maybe next year

I'm so glad you're back, Swami.

I know this is a DCUM tradition and I think it’s really fun and appreciate the OP coming back every year.

It would be really thoughtful if the name for this thread was not lottery ‘Swami’ though. I don’t think people would say lottery Priest or lottery Rabbit or lottery Imam.

A Swami is a Hindu monk. He is also a religious leader of congregations. Like priest, rabbi, Imam. The terms for Hindu figures like Swami and Guru have been ridiculed into caricatures. As something exotic, not ‘real’, as snake oil peddlers, as funny people in weird clothes and that recite strange ‘spells’, Fortune Tellers, etc.

I know this is DCUM and I will get mostly a bunch of snarky replies back but to those of you that are trying your best not to go around making fun of people based on their religion, I hope you will consider evolving past this and into a different, less ridiculing, name.

Thank you.

I love Swami (the person and what she does here) and I appreciate the thoughtful way in which you brought this up. I wouldn't be opposed to an evolution/change of nomenclature, though I suppose this is Swami's choice. I hope everybody stays nice to Swami though because I love this game and every year this is one of the least mean/most fun threads on this forum.

Spanish would be first priority, but maybe full time in person would trump even a good Spanish option this year. Threw the Deal feeders in case this year is that crazy, and not sure if we’d take the Powell spot.

English dominant, sorry.

Swami needs to know if you have an inboundary preferences or ability to pass a native language test before she swamiis

No inboundary preference, and we have a fluent, but non-dominant kid, so not trying to scam the system either. Thanks swami!!

+1. I think Swami is great but you make a good point.

Here's my PK3 list with no sibling preference.

1. Inspired Teaching
2. Two Rivers at 4th
3. E.L.Haynes
4. Creative Minds
5. Capital City PCS

We assume this is very unlikely and plan to keep DC in current childcare setting which we are happy with.

I think lottery Rabbit is a great name.

I have always seen Swami (in my mind) as an homage to Johnny Carson's Great Kreskin - look it up kids if you don't know.

But I never thought of THAT as a stereotype. Can anyone wear a turban?
Anonymous
Swami also means husband or landlord. Priest and (high) priestess have been used in many contexts as has Pope. Do Catholics get offended by this? None that I know. Are Hindus offended by this thread? Don't know but I do know that virtue signaling however earnest is going to kill the fun of an entertaining thread.

Not swami but you might have a shot at one of the MV campuses. They open more seats in K. Also possibly LAMB SD. They are closing that campus so many people won't want it. Everything else is a long shot or zero chance (Oyster/ Bancroft for English Dominant). I believe you can try for Oyster or Bancroft in K if your child is bilingual and can test in.

To the original poster oh so sincerely asking for a name change of the thread, I do not see where anyone's religion is being made fun of. Swami is adding some fun to the absurd situation of the DCPS but that's all I see.
