Can I be the new oracle? I have some experience with tarot and doing readings of differing energies from the future.

tbh there is just an absence of any posts about lottery, when every other year there are about 100. this has to mean something. people just don't give a crap this year.

I give a crap! And ranked Langley for my PK4 kid (we are OOB, not sure we have a shot).

I actually avoided lottery threads last year because I was nervous about results before, and too disappointed after to read about all the people who got into one of their choice schools.

I would love if this thread actually returned to the subject of the lottery as I'm starting to get anxious about results next week and could use some idle chit chat on the matter to help me stay sane.

(I actually posted my list upthread and was one of the people who got a Swami response, but that was before the thread devolved into whatever this is)

Ooooh, would you all like some Langley boosting? Well, here I am. You want to make sure your kid gets to play on a rainy day? We don't have one gym, we've got two! You want your kid to stop screaming their head off?! Well, no guarantees but conscious discipline is amazing and has really moved us in the right direction. Our teachers -- they are truly dedicated and terrific!! The garden, it's magically delicious! We've got all your fieldtrips right here. The community is so close and caring. You'll love it! I can't speak for others, but I have been preoccupied with the DCPS twitter accounts to try to decipher what guidance will be in place for next year, but if you want some boosting I'm here for you

And to the poster hoping to get in at PK4, I'm sure you will as class size goes up. See you in the garden dig pit

Fine work, PP! I too find Langley to be delightful. Conscious Discipline has transformed my son from a wild wildebeest to merely a domesticated wildebeest. I do love the auditorium and all the performances they bring in for the kids. And things have been pretty good in the pandemic, I don't know that we would be more satisfied with the reopening process at any other school.

Swami NAILED my list last year. Like in a totally scary way. S/he predicted DS's first acceptance, predicted how I would feel about it, and predicted which waitlist he'd get off of and even exactly WHEN. I'm a true believer.

I vote for Magic 8-Ball as the new name.

I do think you have a chance at Langley, it's much easier for PK4. But it you are the PP currently at Miner, I am curious why you think Langley is better in a way that justifies the hell that is Dave Thomas Circle.

Bike, baby. It’s 15 minutes, mostly on the now protected bike lanes on FL Ave.

Ok but what makes Langley better than Miner? Not saying it's worse, but I just don't see much of a difference.

Seeing that I got mentioned in the Brookings report (cheers to being in a footnote!), I think it is time for my swami/seer/fortune teller self to pour a drink and make some predictions this evening before the results come out. We all know waitlist movement is my very favorite game to play.

LS says dust off the Duolingo, it's gonna be a rocky summer as you realize it is too late to get a Mandarin speaking aupair and you don't really want to move the Peloton out of the basement anyways.

LS thinks you will trudge through one more year and only go to school practice this weekend to hear everyone else's 5th grade results that you didn't already hear on MOTH. You aren't sure parochial is for you and wonder if this + pandemic means its time to make that big New England move that you've been wanting for years (but DH's not completely on board with)

PK3, no sibs

School within School
Cap Hill Montessori
Brent
Maury
Hyde Addison
Ludlow Taylor
Peabody
Amidon Bowen (in bound)
Appletree SW
Van Ness
Eagle- Cap Riverfront
Apple tree Lincoln Park

LS thinks a pandemic + swing space move will benefit you as you get into CHML on draw day. Your SWS waitlist number will look really good, but never really budge. Your kids class will have virtually no PK4 kids as Montessori zoom school has been an epic fail. You'll sign up for extra snack duty to overcompensate, and buy the regular apples, not the organic ones.

1) LAMB (South Dakota)
2) LAMB (Kingsbury)
3) Bruce Monroe (IB)
4) CMI (sibling preference)
5) DC Bilingual
6) Lee Montessori
7) MV- Calle Ocho
8) MV- JF Cook
9) MMBDA
10) Lee Montessori- East End

LS is pretty sure you weren't quite sure how the list making process really works around here. You'll get into BM but get spooked (yet again), so will submit a post-lottery application back to CMI. You still think a snack fridge for the teachers is ridiculous, even after a pandemic.

Stokes (S)
Stokes (F)
ITDS
Burroughs
LAMB-SD

LE say you'll get a great pull and get into LAMB-SD with an offer for Stokes French by mid-July. You'll get spooked about Stokes going back to school ever, but not as spooked as you'll get about the commute to Kingsbury in a few years. You'll join the team lobbying for a second DCI campus because you don't like your odds of getting one of Stokes' small allocation of spots.
