What changes do you hope to see over the next months/summer? Are we banking on more people being vaccinated and less community spread? More APS protocols in place? Will be get to 5 days in person at this rate

Probably.

I think as people get vaccinated, obviously, we will be in more of a position to look at five day school. I’m a teacher, so I sure as hell hope so. I’m in-person four days, and my kids are two, and that’s hard to manage. Please know that I understand that’s half of Arlington right now. I’m not complaining, and I believe we need to do do hybrid right now, for public health and safety, and to benefit the kids.

I think we can all agree, though, that this just sucks. If we want change, I think the pressure shouldn’t be on APS, but bigger fish. The vaccine rollout needs to be amped up, for example. I see that as the difference here. I don’t want to do concurrent again!!

P.S. I don’t like virtual, either! I feel like people think we do. I want normal school, but I think this year had to be like this. I think our superintendent has done a good job with the hand he’s been dealt. I feel sorry for him, for my students, their families... I’m glad we’re starting to go back to normal. We’re on the way out of this.

^^ speaking of bullies

Her qualifications are on her LinkedIn. Sorry if public facts seem like bullying, but I am sick of her shutting down discussion. The way she refused to even entertain sharing how she came to her conclusions was weird. She makes broad, sweeping claims with pretty graphics (because she is a graphic artist) that are designed to make the reader believe the information is backed by solid science. It is not. She is well-intentioned, but a hack. And so many clueless sycophants encourage her to keep producing. She has a history of bullying on other topics in the past - in real life, not saying on social media.

I am not APE, but I don’t care for how she squelches discussion and sows fear.

What does her profession have to do with anything?

Feel free to challenge her points or question the data, but trying to tear her down because of her job is straight-up bullying.

Seems like you’re trying to silence her instead of addressing her points.

Recognize that she refuses to share underlying data and blocks anyone who disgrees with her. It makes it hard to challenge. But go on and view ventilation lady as the one who is being ‘silenced’

If she is being bullied on FB (as she is on here) then I wouldn’t blame her for blocking the jerks.

Why even bring up her profession? She has every right to advocate. As do you. If you want to be heard, stop bullying and make some rational points.

I agree. I find it very strange that not only is the graphic artist is getting away with this but that so many are going along with it. There are a few in the group who are getting so much bizarre adulation from the others that it just feeds them to keep going, increasing their perceived self-importance and some people’s paralyzing fear about the pandemic. The whole situation is nuts. It’d make a good research project for a psychology class.

She has been advocating for good air quality/ventilation for months. A key factor for the transmission of this virus. I don’t get why this is an actual *problem* for some people.

WTF have you done - aside from bullying people?

I think the vaccines are game changers. As community #s plummet as more people get vaccinated I believe our kids will be back to 5x/wk in the fall. Maybe even summer school if we can pull that off (for those who want/need it).

This is assuming the Moderna/Pfizer vaccines are fairly effective against the new strains, which I believe they will be.

I cant' anymore with AEM.. the fear-mongering is too much. We can only hope APS doesn't listen to them/take them seriously.

I want a new AEM- like it was pre-CoVID. It’s just been reduced to two groups of crazy fighting each other- and I don’t agree with either of them.

There has always been various factions arguing on AEM. Remember all of those boundary decisions?

Ick. You’re right. But- this pandemic had brought on something else entirely.

Yes! We need to (finally) manage this pandemic and get it under control. Fortunately, the vaccines will help bring down #s because we’ve failed in so many ways leading up to this point. Thank you, everyone involved in vaccine development/production/distribution. Truly amazing. You are saving us from ourselves.

Yes, no one *wanted* this. Everyone all wants kids back in school safely, back to normal ASAP. Fortunately, we are heading in that direction.

Do you think APS will consider pausing middle and high school start dates in light of new CDC guidelines? It appears the Fairfax is looking into that. Until case rates drop from red to orange.

Oh to be back in the before/after Labor Day school start turmoil. The anguish of having to reschedule vacations 🤣

I think they’re hopeful that we’ll meet numbers in the next two weeks. I think it’s a safe bet. If not, I do think they’d follow CDC guidelines. As they should!

My gut feel is no. Duran held off until he felt it was safe (teachers vaccinated) so I believe he will move forward, as planned.

I think a lot of families will bail on hybrid though if MS/HS kids are eating indoors.
