Smart Restart APS- ventilation studies

Meanwhile, the new CDC guidance, in its 33 pages, mentions the words “ventilation” TWO times and the words “HEPA and “filter” ZERO times:

“Ventilation: Improve ventilation to the extent possible such as by opening windows and doors to increase circulation of outdoor air to increase the delivery of clean air and dilute potential contaminants. Opening windows and doors should be consistent with school safety protocols and safety plans. Do not open windows and doors if doing so poses a safety risk or a health risk (e.g., risk of falling, triggering asthma symptoms) to anyone using the facility. Opening windows and doors should be consistent with school safety protocols and safety plans.”

Arlington parents FOIA’ing records from an overwhelmed school system in the middle of the crisis of the century because they’re so sure they know better than the school administrators is the perfect illustration of the entitlement of parents in this county.

As a parent, I don't care. The ventilation is fine as is. It really, truly is just fine. I am so sick of hearing about air filters. For some it's like the biggest factor in their child's school, forget all that academics and junk!

How many filters are in the middle school lunch rooms?

It’s a big deal if you believe the science that says being indoors and unmasked with large groups of people is one of the main ways for Covid to spread.

I guess some people find comfort in a pedantic obsession with numbers, as if very specific numbers will be our salvation.

Yes. And frankly the academics will get worked out. Having a safe environment is a more urgent priority.

APS administration has 100% proven themselves incompetent on this point. The wanted to buy ionizers for goodness sake.

I'm so over APS right now. I joined the Smart Restart group just to hear what they are saying, and the general tone of the group is basically it will never be safe enough to open. Meanwhile, my friends with kids in red states are going to school 5 days a week and playing indoor sports, with the only apparent accommodation they have made requiring masks, and they are not seeing huge outbreaks in the schools.

I am not asking this to sound like a broken record but I am genuinely curious? Are the kids of your red state friends eating lunch indoors or outdoors?

And how much testing are they doing there?

How does it go - if you don’t test you don’t have Covid?

You don’t get to publish “your improved data” and then refuse to share it for replication or examination.

This is insane that people are listening to her.

Having lots of numbers and visuals doesn’t make you right.

I agree 100%. I didn’t really have an opinion on it until I saw she refused to share her backup and calculations because she didn’t want people to poke holes in her argument. I cannot take her seriously after that. That’s not how any numbers based evaluation works.

Nailed it. This is the Arlington Way. And we as taxpayers are paying for real experts to refute those parents’ allegations.

That thread is a big yikes.
