It's not that hard.

He never asked her to not recline her seat
Therefore he was in the wrong
You cannot always expect people to know what you are thinking, feeling. Language and polite language has been invented for a reason

We don't know what happened before she started filming.

This. I wish we could hear his side of story. What if he politely asked her not to recline so far because he couldn’t go any further back and she was like, I paid for this seat and it’s my right to recline.

And who is filming for her? Is she holding the camera or a friend/relative?

Doesn't matter. Still not okay to commit an assault.

What assault? He’s tapping on her chair in beat to music, passive-aggressively. Does he touch her? No.

Oh come on
Aggressive behavior mid flight is against the law

She could have been the aggressor. Slamming down your seat in someone's face when they have nowhere else to go (especially if one or more people asked you not to do that) is an equal level of "assault" and "aggression".

No. The seat reclines. It's a feature. It's not the recliner's fault that the airline crams everyone in. If you don't want someone to recline in front of you, complain to the airline about their design or fly business. Not our fault that the airline made such a crappy design. I don't begrudge people who recline in front of me. I understand the constraints and I either have chosen to accept it or, if not, I fly business or take a train. Train and bus seats also recline and yet there is enough space not to interfere with the other passengers. Airlines need to do better and stop treating their customers like crap.

So the a**hole reclining people have no self-control or consideration? The airline forces them to be a**holes?

There's nothing asshole about using a provided feature. Nothing. If it's too cramped, it's not the passenger's problem. If you don't like that a seat can recline, don't fly or pay more. If the seats aren't meant to recline, then why provide them? So silly. As mentioned, I don't begrudge people who recline. They are perfectly entitled to do so. Why is that rude? It's not their fault the damn aircraft is so cramped.

Sounds like you have no sense of personal responsibility. “The airline made me do it!” Shrugs shoulders.

NP. What are you talking about? Personal responsibility? How about taking the personal responsibility of buying the seat you would actually be comfortable in instead of getting the cheapest and then complaining when people around you simply live their life?

I hate flying. I rarely do it. Last place I flew was my dad's funeral. I spent extra to upgrade and not only board early, but have a roomier seat and more privacy. That is personal responsibility. Not getting the cheapest middle seat and then thrashing and moaning "why are all of these people bothering me when I'm sad and trying to grieve!"

That guy in the video is a douche and I can't believe they didn't have him escorted off the plane.

Personal consideration for the comfort of others and moral responsibility to be kind. Obviously foreign concepts to selfish, me-first recliners.

It's also inconsiderate and selfish to try to deny someone who wants to recline their right to recline.

Nope. A person who reclines is the active aggressor.

eh, I think it depends on the situation. I'm 5'5" and when the passenger in front of me reclines it's not that big of a deal. But if a passenger reclined on top of my 6'3" son, that would be really uncomfortable for him. Yes, I would use my voice and politely ask that passenger to please raise their seat up or I would just trade seats with my son. Of course, if he is flying alone then he would need to politely ask the person to please raise their seat. If they chose to simply ignore his request that would be brutally rude on their part. I guess my son would then have to ask the flight attendant to find him another seat?

There is another seat for your son - it's called business class. Buy it next time

Maybe he doesn’t have the money to do that. Are going to buy it for him, Penelope Entitledema Moneybucks?

He should have been escorted off of the plane.

Do people pay less for that seat?

Of course they don’t. People are just assigned there. The drama queens on this thread are running amuck trying to justify rude behavior!

He was eating food on his tray and asked her to raise her seat up. She did. When he finished eating, she reclined her seat again. He got aggravated and at some point the flight attendant came over talked to the two of them and offered HIM a free drink. The lady remained reclined in her seat and when he started to drum on her seat that's when she started to video tape him. He kept drumming on her seat for a good part of the rest of the flight it looked like.

They both behaved like jackazzes.

Just because you CAN do something doesn’t mean you SHOULD do it. Isn’t that a basic rule we all want to teach our children?

She claimed he punched the back of her seat several times with a lot of force. Once she started recording he switched to the drumming which is what the video shows.

I do lot understand why planes do not have security cameras on them. Seems it would stop so much of the he said she said.

“It was scary and very painful” she said, claiming she lost time at work, had to receive X-rays and suffered headaches because of the incident.

“I’m in pain. I have 1 cervical disk left that isn’t fused – the first 1 which allows me some mobility. It’s scary bc it’s this the kind of injury that could do it in,” she said.

“I am grateful for the limited movement I still have and shouldn’t have had to endure the repeated blows.”

Seriously? This sounds like "pay me" scheme. She makes it sound like the guy beat the shit of her in a dark alley. She is clearly after money from the airline

Is this a Gloria Gaynor reference?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gYkACVDFmeg

At first, I was afraid, I was petrified
Kept thinking, I could never live without you by my side
But then I spent so many nights thinking, how you did me wrong
And I grew strong and I learned how to get along

WTF?

Good catch!! When I read the tweet I thought the language seemed weird yet familiar. So she was just tweeting song lyrics, she wasn’t actually petrified. How has no one else picked up on this.

They did. It was in the article linked in the original post. “Williams also channeled Gloria Gaynor, apparently revising the lyrics to “I Will Survive” to describe her ordeal.”

I dunno, sounds sort of unhinged, looking for a fight or wanting some kind of settlement from the airline...maybe a combo of all of it.

What? If this is true, I change my mind about her not being a douche as well.

For all the strong anti-recliners out there, I have a question for you. If the person in front of you reclines, would you recline your own seat to make it better? I personally do not like to recline, but I also understand that it is anyone's right to recline and accept it as the inconvenience of flying. I however do not like having the seat in front literally to my face, so I, in turn, recline my own seat in response. This has never happened, but if the person behind me asks me not to recline, I would answer that I would gladly oblige if they can convince the person in front of me to not recline. Ideally, airlines should just do away with reclining seats or give us all more space.

No. I’m wouldn’t dream of inconveniencing the person behind me, regardless of the situation.

So you would rather be uncomfortable the whole flight? If so, then kudos to you! You are a better person than I ever dreamed to be!
