Women Videotapes Man Banging on Her Seat After She Reclines -Who's Right?

Anonymous
The man is a douche. He is literally in the cheapest seat on the airplane right next to the bathroom. There is a wall behind him so he can't recline. He is acting like a toddler, honestly, toddlers act better.

He should have been escorted off of the plane.

When she alerted the stewardess about the seat punching, the stewardess rolled her eyes and offered HIM a complimentary rum (yeah that'll make him behave better ... ), and gave HER a passenger disturbance notice, and threatened to have her escorted off the plane.

Wow. The FA also insisted that the woman delete the video, saying it's illegal to video on a plane. WTF?

I'm guessing there's more to this story than we know. Maybe she was antagonizing him the whole flight and the attendant knew about it. Maybe the flight attendant simply asked the woman to not recline since the man was obviously struggling for space in his own seat and the woman disregarded her request. Maybe the woman mostly just reclined to annoy the guy because she didn't like him. The attendant knows more than we do.

Do people pay less for that seat?

They’re both bad.

I've literally never seen a "discount" for the seats next to the bathroom. I just selected my seats for a trip later this year; 4 flights because I have to change planes on the way over and the way back. To choose my seat, the cheapest option was $27 (for each leg.) I chose aisle seats towards the front of the plane, but if chose a middle seat in the last row right next to the bathroom, it still would have cost me $27.

“It was scary and very painful” she said, claiming she lost time at work, had to receive X-rays and suffered headaches because of the incident.

“I’m in pain. I have 1 cervical disk left that isn’t fused – the first 1 which allows me some mobility. It’s scary bc it’s this the kind of injury that could do it in,” she said.

“I am grateful for the limited movement I still have and shouldn’t have had to endure the repeated blows.”

Seriously? This sounds like "pay me" scheme. She makes it sound like the guy beat the shit of her in a dark alley. She is clearly after money from the airline

Is this a Gloria Gaynor reference?

At first, I was afraid, I was petrified
Kept thinking, I could never live without you by my side
But then I spent so many nights thinking, how you did me wrong
And I grew strong and I learned how to get along

WTF?

Good catch!! When I read the tweet I thought the language seemed weird yet familiar. So she was just tweeting song lyrics, she wasn’t actually petrified. How has no one else picked up on this.

This woman is now claiming that she has missed time from work due to having to see the doctor over this. She wants to press charges against the guy with the FBI.

I dunno, sounds sort of unhinged, looking for a fight or wanting some kind of settlement from the airline...maybe a combo of all of it.

No. The seat reclines. It's a feature. It's not the recliner's fault that the airline crams everyone in. If you don't want someone to recline in front of you, complain to the airline about their design or fly business. Not our fault that the airline made such a crappy design. I don't begrudge people who recline in front of me. I understand the constraints and I either have chosen to accept it or, if not, I fly business or take a train. Train and bus seats also recline and yet there is enough space not to interfere with the other passengers. Airlines need to do better and stop treating their customers like crap.

So the a**hole reclining people have no self-control or consideration? The airline forces them to be a**holes?

There's nothing asshole about using a provided feature. Nothing. If it's too cramped, it's not the passenger's problem. If you don't like that a seat can recline, don't fly or pay more. If the seats aren't meant to recline, then why provide them? So silly. As mentioned, I don't begrudge people who recline. They are perfectly entitled to do so. Why is that rude? It's not their fault the damn aircraft is so cramped.

Sounds like you have no sense of personal responsibility. “The airline made me do it!” Shrugs shoulders.

NP. What are you talking about? Personal responsibility? How about taking the personal responsibility of buying the seat you would actually be comfortable in instead of getting the cheapest and then complaining when people around you simply live their life?

I hate flying. I rarely do it. Last place I flew was my dad's funeral. I spent extra to upgrade and not only board early, but have a roomier seat and more privacy. That is personal responsibility. Not getting the cheapest middle seat and then thrashing and moaning "why are all of these people bothering me when I'm sad and trying to grieve!"

That guy in the video is a douche and I can't believe they didn't have him escorted off the plane.

Personal consideration for the comfort of others and moral responsibility to be kind. Obviously foreign concepts to selfish, me-first recliners.

It's also inconsiderate and selfish to try to deny someone who wants to recline their right to recline.

Nope. A person who reclines is the active aggressor.

eh, I think it depends on the situation. I'm 5'5" and when the passenger in front of me reclines it's not that big of a deal. But if a passenger reclined on top of my 6'3" son, that would be really uncomfortable for him. Yes, I would use my voice and politely ask that passenger to please raise their seat up or I would just trade seats with my son. Of course, if he is flying alone then he would need to politely ask the person to please raise their seat. If they chose to simply ignore his request that would be brutally rude on their part. I guess my son would then have to ask the flight attendant to find him another seat?

There is another seat for your son - it's called business class. Buy it next time

The airline made me do it!

Pathetic.

I fully agree with the PP. The seats recline. If the airline isn't providing enough space to recline without infringing on the next passenger, they need to fix it and stop framing it as an etiquette problem. It's a design problem because they are cramming us in like sardines to maximize profits.

Everyone needs to seriously stop blaming the airlines. Just check out the income statement and balance sheet of almost any US airline. They are not raking in the money! Nobody wants to enter this crappy business. THe reality is that the business has expanded so much that now poor people are a huge part of the customer base. People don't want to pay more than $200 for a domestic plane ticket. And sorry, that doesn't pay the bills. The seats have been getting more cramped because of this. If you don't like it, fly business. When people start paying more money for bigger seats, the supply of seats on planes will shift to bigger seats. It's like saying why are their no flip phones anymore. Because nobody bought them! "It's an evil scheme!" lol

What does the CEO make? I blame the airlines

The CEO could make zero dollars and it would not change a single economic fact that is relevant to small seats

You said they are not taking in the money. I call bullshi$ and say pull up the CEOs salary/bonus/perks.

I said check the balance sheet and income statement. You probably don't know how to do that.

It's not that hard.

He never asked her to not recline her seat
Therefore he was in the wrong
You cannot always expect people to know what you are thinking, feeling. Language and polite language has been invented for a reason

We don't know what happened before she started filming.
