https://nypost.com/2020/02/13/airplane-passenger-caught-on-video-shaking-womans-reclined-seat/ Frankly, I put the blame on the airlines. I don't think it's an etiquette issue. If a seat reclines, the passenger should be able to recline it during his/her ourney. Otherwise, don't offer the option. If the airline is cramming us too close together to make it uncomfortable, it's on them to rectify this. |

I found out about 10 years ago on facebook that there are very clearly two camps of people - those that feel a seat should NEVER be reclined, and those that can't imagine NOT reclining their seats. It seems to split partially along lines of height. Men over 6 feet appear to believe it is against the law to recline seats because it "hits their knees" and people under 6 feet typically believe seats that are not reclined are too hard on your back (which is true).
My position is that seats are extremely uncomfortable and reclining them makes it slightly better. I have some shoulder tendon problems that reclining makes better. It is a feature of the seat that I'm paying for, and I should be able to recline it. What the anti-recliner folks seem to not realize is that if seats did NOT recline, the airlines would just pack the seats another inch or two closer together and they would just lose the legroom they feel entitled to, because it is just an artificial byproduct of the fact that reclining seats require an extra coupe of inches in between. If you truly can't fit in a seat, either widthwise because you are too fat or lengthwise because you are too tall, then you should purchase an economy plus or business class seat. When I want more space or fly on a long flight, I fly business. It should not be my job to accommodate you by neglecting to use a feature that I purchased just because you do not fit in your own seat. |

Obviously he was wrong for banging. That’s assault and I think the airline totally failed in their responsibility to keep passengers safe.
Whether someone should recline or not is a completely different discussion. I’m a partial recliner when I want a nap (enough so my head doesn’t flop) and only fully recline on red eye flights. |

She is legally right, he is morally right.
Recliners are the spawn of the devil. |
|
It's not terribly considerate to recline your seat. The woman is not particularly considerate.
The man who has a rage-fit and loses his mind is straight out sociopathic. Neither of them are right, but he so clearly much much worse than her mild inconvenience. |
|
She is both legally and morally right.
He should be put on a no fly list. |

The is how the CEOs stay rich— pit the customers against each other.
The seat reclines. She reclined it AFTER the guy had his meal. He is the a$$hat that pounded her seat like a toddler. But the AIRLINE is to blame. The CEO is the head. Either no seats recline or offer Nonrecline times (takeoff, mealtime, landings). Else why offer? |
This is an example of the no-recline camp. How can something be morally wrong when it is literally a feature built in to what you paid for. Should I not recline my seat in the movie theater either when I pay fo ra recliner? |
| you noticed how she set up her video ready to tape? i think she set this up to get on the news and may be make money from the airlines. what a bit*h. |
| I learned from DCUM that, despite the fact that airlines sell you a seat that reclines, it is rude to recline your seat, so I no longer do so. However, it is BEYOND rude to punch the seat of the person in front of you. They should have escorted him off the plane and he should be put on the no fly list. |
I agree with this. I also believe that grown people who behave like petulant children are only embarrassing themselves. |

He's obviously wrong. When you start an assault against someone because you aren't getting your way, you are far into the wrong territory. He is an entitled jerk, being defended by more entitled jerks.
Take a moment to imagine what the response would have been if he were middle eastern, and you have your answer to the question. The fact this was triggered by reclining doesn't even matter. He's an asshole who should have been arrested when landed, but wasn't because he is an entitled middle age white man. This episode is making me think all the anti-recliners are entitled jerks too by the way they are defending this, and I don't recline. |
You don't know that. Perhaps he was punching before and continued punching after. I highly doubt she planned on forcing him to punch her seat like, "hey watch this I'm going to recline and let's see if the passenger behind me loses his damn mind". |
| Both are wrong. It was a short flight so she didn’t need to recline. He was stuck in a seat that didn’t recline but should have been able to suck it up for a couple of hours. His big mistake was being so blatant. Most people dig their knees in or mess with the table or whatever. Just as annoying and harder to catch. |
So, we will put you in the entitled jerk category. |
