| Jessie might have some explaining to do. |
| A thread this long before someone brave enough hinted at the truth. Wow. |
Who's that clown |
I wondered that. What happened was horrible, but maybe he got into some kinky stuff or a fantasy gone too far. If it truly was a set up or similar, malicious hateful attack, fry them, but if it was something else that went to far... |

New article that has more info. He apparently went home first, called his manager/police, then went to the hospital
https://chicago.suntimes.com/news/jussie-smollett-rope-tied-around-neck-empire-star-racially-charged-homophobic-slurs-streeterville-attack/ Smollett initially was “reluctant” to call police because of the attention he would generate as a public figure, Guglielmi said. But his manager eventually called at 2:42 a.m., about 40 minutes after the attack. When officers showed up at the apartment, the rope was still around Smollett’s neck, said Guglielmi, who described the rope as a “thin, light rope.” Guglielmi said the rope didn’t necessarily resemble a noose. Smollett asked officers to turn off their body cameras while interviewing him, which Guglielmi said is standard for many victims, especially inside a home. After taking Smollett’s report, officers encouraged him to go to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for treatment to lacerations on his face and neck, Guglielmi said. Smollett’s manager took him to the hospital, and he was later released. |
Hinted at what truth? |
Agreed. It seems clear that he was brutally attacked so I don't think it was "staged" as some PPs are speculating. I think it's more likely that he doesn't want the real story to come out for whatever reason, and he made up a cover story that then got out to the public and now it has a life of its own. It reminds me of the cover story in the Lululemon murder-- was horrifying when you first heard it but then when you really thought about it, it just didn't make any sense. (Not that I am comparing Jussie to a murderer-- I think he is the victim here but we are not hearing the whole story) |
I think the bolded is the telling part. His manager called the police, not Jussie. He didn't want this to get out. I'm guessing it's a hookup gone bad. |
I think it depends on what you mean by staged. I think that the person or persons who did this knew who he was at the very least, and showed up to the meeting/attack prepared to make a spectacle of him. |
This was my thought as well. Maybe some sort of BDSM/kinky sex gone wrong? Occam’s Razor. |
| I hadn't heard of this person before, or the show for that matter (I guess I'm very out of touch) but how awful! |

Why would he keep the rope around his neck for 40 minutes?
As soon as I got away from attackers or as soon as I got home, I would take a noose off my neck. Especially since he wasn't intending to report it or go to the ER.. Who sits in their house with a rope around their neck from an attack? This is all sounding way off. I agree with the theory, he met up with someone from Grindr, it went wrong, there was a physical altercation. He may well have been the victim in that altercation I don't think there were ski masks, or bleach or a noose. |
| Ok, after reading this thread I feel like much less of an asshole for speculating that there is something off about this story. |
If he was reluctant about reporting it because of the unwanted attention, why then would he Post about it and Post photos? I don't get it. If he asked the officers to turn off their cameras to keep it private, why Post about it when he could have kept it private? Just weird. Maybe his manager talked him into using it for publicity. |
