I’m a Jewish former teacher. Should I hang ornaments on a tree when I don’t have one?

No. Definitely pull them out and scowl at them every year because the kids didn't get you were Jewish and just assumed their lovely teacher would like this ornament they picked out.

I'm not Christian either but "Y'all need Jesus" Both of you.

I’m the Jewish poster. I see nothing wrong with my post which originally responded to a teacher saying she’d lovingly hang all ornaments on her tree each year and think of the kids who gave them to her. I appreciate the thought behind all gifts but things I don’t use, want or need (ornaments, mugs, etc.) will be donated.

A couple years ago, my DH had a vary serious medical issue and spent a week in the hospital. By Christmas, the health issue was largely resolved. He brought a big tray of cookies up to the section of the hospital he had been in as a thanks to the staff. No one remembered him and they seemed annoyed at the distraction.

My twins were in the nicu for a few weeks after they were born. A couple weeks after they went home we bought some Starbucks coffee and some Harry and David treats to the nursing station. Not only did nobody remember us which I don’t care about, a nurse bitches at us that now she was going to gain weight! Oh well, still glad I got t for them. And before anybody says anything else we also donated a dozen sleepsacks in preemie sizes.

I got Amazon gift cards and Target gift cards for our main teachers/daycare providers, and Starbucks gift cards for the subs/bus driver/assistant teachers, etc.

It seemed to go over well. I may just do all Amazon next year, but a $15 Amazon card somehow seems more stingy than a $15 Starbucks card for the bus driver/crossing guard, etc. Thoughts?

We contributed to the class fund (which not everyone dies) abdvthenbalso got little ornaments. Teachers probably didn’t know that we also face to the group gifts (which ended up being several hundred dollars worthy of gift cards, flowers, etc for the teachers). I think next year I will do individual gifts, sadly, I get the feeling that we didn’t get “credit.”- is that silly?

SAHMs are very capable of using MS office - ranging from word to excel too. They are also using signupgenius, evites, listservs, weebly, whatsapp etc to communicate, organize and document. The PTA president in our school is a SAHM who is super-organized and tech savvy. This has resulted in a whole lot of afterschool programs in our school for students and communication being sent out on FB, Twitter, listserv as well as a website that she created.

As a WOHM already wrote - getting a paycheck does not mean that you are at a high paying job or capable. There are enough WOHMs who are qualified for low paying jobs only and it shows in their involvement at the school levels.

- a WOHM who has both SAHM and WOHM friends who are super capable.

What would you do if someone nicely gave you something for which you have no need and likely something you have received dozens of every few years? Keep it - so you have a pile of stuff or can’t close a cabinet? Donate it? If you get brownies and are on a diet or get nuts and you’re allergic or get a sweater that doesn’t fit or an the 30th ornament that you have no use for - what would you do with it?

Yes. You don’t need credit.

Same happened to us! I usually donate to fund because I worry the other parents won’t and then get a separate gift too. I figure that way I give more to the teacher without looking like I’m bribing them. I just know money is tight and I want to give them more for being so great. This year one of my kids’ classes ended up with several hundred in gift cards and spa experiences. It probably seems that we opted out since we do extra gifts but I was just glad they seemed thrilled.

I'd be happy anyone bothered. I'd thank them and tell them how happy it made me to receive it. You know, because I'm not the sort of whiny prick that complains about gifts.

Then friggin' donate it. I just don't want to hear about what you want/don't want. The kids (esp. in ES) are very proud of their teacher gifts, at least in our family/circle. They love giving them. If you can't find the joy in that, that says more about you.

And guess what? Guess how many gifts I get in the work place? Let me give you a hint, it rhymes with "hero." So suck it up. Act grateful. And then do whatever it is you want with it.

I’m with you...that’s precisely what I do. And then I donate it. This thread is about this topic. If you don’t want to ever know it’s donated, don’t read the thread anymore. The other thing teachers don’t need is some type of dish with the kids’ signatures on them and glazed over so it’s shiny.

I’d love sweet notes and drawings. I would love some
Supplies for the classroom for your kids to use. And although I will appreciate the thought and kindness behind the gesture, if you want to get me something I’ll actually use or something I want, then I’m suggestong no mugs or ornaments.
