Boy sent his nude picture to DD

Just got an email from MCPS about nude photos. I wonder if it's related to this post.

OP here. It's not related. I didn't report the issue to school: the boy's parents took the incident very seriously, and no school involvement was needed.

I have heard it directly from the mouths of police officers and FBI agents, and with my own eyes I have seen the evidence, which has been legally retrieved through a warrant or with permission. Please do not delude yourself into thinking that once your phone has been wiped or the photo "deleted" that the photo is gone.

In which case there would be court cases. SO cite your evidence, not just "mouths of police officers."

Just wanted to let you know that I'm done. Think what you want. Do what you want. I normally would say at this juncture that I hope it works out for you but since this is a discussion of using technology to send and receive child pornography, I won't and don't hope that ...

I am glad that you contacted the parents and that they took the incident very seriously. Thank you for posting back.

can I just ask - how on earth did you approach the parents ? Did you call? Go over there? What? I'm trying to imagine if it was parents I didn't know ... it's the kind of conversation I'd want to have face to face to avoid misunderstandings, but it's hard to imagine marching over to a stranger's house and knocking on the door and delivering this news.

Oh get over yourself. My point is about your alleged facts. Snapchat was designed for nefarious purposes as far as I can see, so we don't use it. No one in my family needs there messages to disappear. But if this kid used Snapchat then the photo is gone since it was opened.

Going to the police is like last resort. You lose all control then
Particularly with under age kids the law has not kept up with technology and the police are not to be trusted.

I found the boy in the school directory and sent an email to the parents.

Get the girl into intensive psychological counseling immediately. The fact that she saw a photo of a naked 8th grade boy is enough to set off emotions that she may never recover from. Do it tomorrow!

She's 11? With her response her phone/access to Snapchat would be gone around here.

This is a sure way to shut down open communication with her child. The DD was responsible and told her parents. She also told the boy to not send anything like that to her again. As and aside, OP, please make sure you explain to your child that if she screenshots, keeps on her phone or sends pictures that are sent to her, even to say "can you believe what this jerk sent to me," it can be possession and/or distribution of child pornography.

DP here. I too don't have a cite, but read an article a while back that says they are retrievable even if deleted. The article was specifically talking about IPhones.

Um, what? Billions of teenage girls have seen naked boys and men. They still do, in less-developed countries. Are they all psychologically damaged for life?

Now lets remove these social media sites off their phones. Or resort to cheap non smart phones. Kids do not need to be on snap chat.
