APS has W-L soccer and Wakefield basketball. Otherwise... |
Oh don't I know it. APS has small class sizes and that's about it. FFX is the better school system. |
Wow... do you hate *all* the good schools, or only the ones you aren't able to send your own kids to? |
If this is an APS parent, she is able to send her kids to Yorktown if she wants, even if she doesn't live in-bounds. There are open transfers to Yorktown (and Wakefield) from either of the other comprehensive high schools. The only schools you can't just opt into are W-L and H-B, which require applications/lottery. So, that's not the issue. |
I'm sure there will be more openings in the future, since the students have been calling ICE and reporting their classmates. |
| McLean and Langley |
| Woodson and Oakton |
I don't know about that. We're in Fairfax and go over to Arlington enough and there are several other things I really like about Arlington. If I could afford Arlington we'd probably move even though it would be a longer commute. |
I don't know of anyone zoned for Langley, McLean or Oakton who couldn't afford Arlington. Woodson, maybe. |
If this is a joke, it's not funny. |
It's not a joke and it's not funny. This happened at Yorktown last week. |
It reflects on housing prices, trying to get into a decent house in the Mclean Langley pyramids can cost $200k more than Woodson or Madison or Marshall. My DH and I debated endlessly whether it was worth it to buy that $820- $850k house in Mclean when a similar house cost $650k nearby. I gave him all the data as to how Marshall has been coming up the ranks, how Madison is good too, how Woodson has good test scores, how Langley and Mclean don't have the glory of the past as much if you just look at rankings and scores. He still only considered Langley and Mclean to be the top 2. He's a NoVa native that attended one of those and perceptions die hard. |
It did? Was this in the news? |
It's not just NoVa natives who feel this way. And by some measures, the gap between Langley/McLean/Madison and the other schools is expanding, not narrowing. |
