Nope. It's just weaker MS AAP options, which results in fewer TJ placements and more kids deciding there's no point in applying. If Madison kids went to Carson or Longfellow for AAP rather than Jackson, the situation would be different. |
Really not born out by actual facts... keep livin' the dream.
|
Oh, look at you...brought along some alternate facts to support your opinion, how lovely.
|
| OP, your next question should be which cluster has most teen suicides? |
...or the most recreational drug use. |
| ...or most tiger moms |
Actually, the facts are pretty clear as to which AAP MS have the highest TJ acceptance rates and TJ admissions: Carson, Longfellow and Rocky Run. Claiming Madison kids spurn TJ because of some "Sixth Man" mural pointed on the wall of the gym is just an attempt to spin. |
|
...if you know actually knew annnnything about high school beyond who wants to endure TJ...
...the Sixth Man are the KIDS who come out to support their peers especially at athletic events like the conference basketball championship. It is not a mural or some inanimate object...it is real kids expressing the school spirit in support of their team. |
The affluent ARE moving there because the schools are strong, and the schools ARE strong because the affluent are moving there. If you really want to know whether a school is doing a good job, however, check and see how well they are educating the sub-groups: special ed, low income, and English learners. Even if you don't have a child in one of the sub-groups, this is a good gauge of whether the staff is competent, the administration is strong and the programs are solid. |
| Money attracts money. As I suggested earlier, look for the HSs with the highest median incomes. If that is what OP is really looking for. |
|
...
Must be, because I've never heard of the Sixth Man before. There is so much more to the school than sports. |
|
To the OP...
So, as you have heard here the only thing that matters is: SES=Achievement SES=Achievement SES=Achievement SES=Achievement SES=Achievement SES=Achievement SES=Achievement SES=Achievement SES=Achievement There is so much more to a "best" high school to create a well rounded student including peers in the tudent body, teachers, administrators, culture, school pride, music and drama programs, clubs+activities, and, yes, athletics. (although to some here pursuit and support of sports is not a worthy endeavor). OP, first you need to determine with you child, what is best. Pretty much any of the top 6 schools mentioned here will have a place that fits your child. |
| Langley and McLean are the top two. Why do you only ask about two? |
| Who is the George mason poster i keep seeing in these posts? Nice try but it really just isn't on par with the other schools mentioned. |
Huh? I am not the Mason poster (I live in Fairfax Co.) but there's no disputing that George Mason HS is right up there with the best Fairfax has. In some rankings, it's outranked Fairfax Co.'s schools. |
